So I bought my first RX7 last night

It's an 87 T2 black on black and gray. The only mods are full Racing Beat exhuast, fuel cut off, ganky "racing" seats, and an aftermarket head unit....

The goods, it's from Wyoming and the chassis is clean! The fact that it is almost bone stock is a huge plus for me too...

The Bads, Either a motor or a turbo issue... when the engine is running it pours oil smoke out the exhuast, almost like it had just been Seafoamed....


I know what I am getting myself into.... It's the exact FC I've wanted and for the price I paid it was kind of like buying racing beat exhuast that comes with a free T2...

cool dude.when i bought my TII it smoked also but i just fixed all the vacuum lines to the books and online and it went away. try your boost sensor right by the passenger strut tower. if it doesnt have a good vacuum source the motor will smoke white. like mine used too.

 

WTF I must be losing it, or someone edited the initial post. I'm 100% you wrote 97 as the year.

It's all good... I have tons of research to do... I know a little bit, and my friend knows quite a bit about the 7... between us we can get this car running right.

If the motor is smoked I'll probably send it to Kevin for a rebuild...

 

we dont know kevin but whatever good luck dude.i still say the boost sensor

 

I'll be doing a full diagnosis soon... just like to think worst case scenario at all times...

Now for some pics

So the plan is to turn this car into a reliable weekend fun car, basically do some auto x, cruise, maybe go to the strip...

I want to strip all the unnecessary things, power steering, air conditioning, emissions, air pump, etc... just make it simple, easy to work on etc.

I will first be bringing the car back to stock or as close to stock as the repairs necessitate, if I have to pull the motor it WON'T be going back in without full block off plates and such.

Right now I have two issues to resolve, first it starts and idles fine but under boost it misses and won't accelerate. Two, it smoke oil, lots of oil...

Plan is to first do a full general tune up, re grounding, etc... try and get it running good. Then I'm going to rebuild the turbo and hope that it is the source of the oil burning, if it isn't I'll have a rebuilt turbo so I'm not losing...
