Bought my 1st RE Amemiya parts- what garbage!

I saw the Amemiya low profile mirrors (type 1?) on E-bay for $150 "buy it now" from Japan.

I had always liked how the edges of this blend w/ the body/windshield pillar and it was a good price compared to RPonline's $480. Plus the lower frontal area should be an aerodynamic improvement. If little plastic wheel thingies can drop the Sport's Cd to .29 from .30 I bet mirrors can help too.

So, I bought them. I like the looks, but what garbage!

They are just a shell, so the FG weave is very visible on the inner contours of the mirrors- yech. Luckily one of the "themes" of my car is black texture paint, so I will just fill and paint the insides w/ this- it will help reduce glare as well.

They are manual, but instead of the stock manual mirrors like I put on my TII they are NOT adjustable from inside via a stalk. You have to unroll the window and get fingerprints all over the mirror to adjust them- bleh.

The mirror setting plate is a flimsy sheetmetal strip pop riveted to the mirror surround. It flexes when you go to adjust the mirrors and is so bent on one side from its flimsiness that the mirror glass juts out past the surround so you can see behind it. I can just imagine how the glass will jump around and blur w/ my harsh coilover ride. I have to drill the pop rivets out and tap them for screws just to take out the mirrors and paint the inside contours of the surround...

The fiberglass molding is not that great- there is a pretty big sag on the underside of one and small inclusions other places.

One good thing I can say is that they used matt and not chopped fiber so these are strong and light!

And I haven't put them on yet, but it appears they are not molded to the contour of the area they fit into so that you will have to use weather stripping foam on the backside to fill the gaps where the window trim holds them out from the mirror mounting base area.

Pretty much from seeing these, close up pics of other RE bodykit pieces and the reviews of quality from owners I think RE Amemiya is overpriced crap! I used to be against people duping their kits etc, but now I think a Tiawanese knockoff of an RE part would probably be a step up in quality...

Will I put them on my car? Yeah, probably after I do a bunch of work to them to get them up to my quality standards.

Yeah, I would think that, although didn't rotary extreme say that the FC2002 front bumber was a little left to eb desired?

I think those drift mirrors were only available from RE in powered. Sounds like you might have a knock-off.

It is possible that you have purchased a knock off.

I'll see if there is some way to verify authenticity.

Did the item come in a RE-A box?

The RE Amemiya Type I mirrors are available in both powered and manual. The $480 + tax + shipping RX7.com price I quoted is for these manual ones.

There is NO reason to doubt these are the real things in my mind- they look exactly like the pictures of said item and there is no room for a better adjusting mechanism, seperate skin for the inner contours or correct fitment to car as they are pictured in the RE advertisements. Also, they came directly from Japan. I don't see a lot of dupes made in Japan...

For all you that proclaim RE Amemiya products are high quality-

Do you own any?

Have you ever seen any in person?

My RE-A oilcap is nice. I've seen a full FC2000 kit in person, with wing and diffuser, and the quality looked real good. I can't comment on the fitment though, as it hasn't been installed yet.

My $7 ebay blue anodized oil cap w/ out corporate logo looks good-

Not to specifically pick on you Neevosh, but how much did the RE Amemiya name on the oil cap cost you?

I have seen just pics of the RE FC2000 kit, so I can't get too nit picky. But, what is w/ the cheesy phillips sheet metal screws holding the headlight lenses on at odd angles and not even countersunk? How come the lenses don't seal to the bumper cover, so when you wash your car they get moisture up inside the headlight bezel? How come the kit comes w/ cheasy non DOT legal fog lights?

Yeah, that is what I expect for a $2000 bumper...

I don't trust anything off ebay. You can't expect anything good from ebay. It might say "specially made for the RX-7...blah blah blah" When e-bay first started, the things being sold on there were alright. Now there's a bunch of knock offs and a few liget products.

Here is a link to the e-bay auction

Here is a link to rx7.com catalogue picture

Start pointing out the differences and where this is a fake. Hell, I wish it was a "fake" as it would probably be better executed!

FEDREX...

Wow, answered your PM nicely before I read your post here and I'm surprised at your condescending tone. A simple "Please change" would suffice. Anyhow, consider it done.

Seriously - my apology.

I was out of line and will edit the text. I just felt sort of infringed on at the time when I saw it. Took a whil;e to select that pic after searching the net, someone sized it for me, I use it on other forums.

But that's no excuse. Please forgive, I'm usually more cordial (as you probably noticed in my PM response to you.)
Thanks..

Too late to edit it....just disregard I was just cranky at the time.

In fact, there's another shot I really liked of an SR at dusk. I'll do a search and get it to you, just for bein' a butt.

BLUE TII, you're just too kind!

Thanks for the mirror write-up...I always thought they looked cool, nice to hear what you're actually gettin' into.
