Borla XR1 - resonator?

I have heard of a lot of people using Borla's or other mufflers to quiet down their cars, but keep the flow good. If i weld a Borla XR-1 in behind my cat, but before my muffler, would it do a lot? is it even worth it? what other ways can i quiet it down? (cant afford RB or i would)

right about now im wishing i had gone with the RB system...cause i paid almost as much for a single system that was all custom and kinda LOUD...

probably doesnt flow as well either...

I bought a resinator off ebay, and paid 30 bucks including shipping. Its stainless steel and its for an eclipse. It was the same length as my midpipe so it bolted up perfect. As for loudness it did quiet it down abit and it has a more deeper rumble at idle.

Yeah you could use a Borla XR-1 for that, but it's kind of expensive.

Don't use anything that flows straight through, literally.
Find an OFFSET (center in / side out or side in / opposite side out) muffler that uses a perforated core - this is the best flowing and quietest muffler you can install.

I know Dynomax and Magnaflow both makes something like this.
I'm not sure if Borla does - at least not in 3" or larger sizes.

An offset will flow better than a straight through muffler?

No, but we were trying to get the noise to drop a bit, right?

Ahh... gotcha.

As for the Borla XR-1, I have one and I love it. It quietens down my exaust way more than an RB Presilencer did, and it shifted the tone a few clicks deeper. Especially at idle.

Peter Farrell used the Borla XR-1 as a resonator in his cars and sold it as such. His cars made over 600 hp with them as they flowed so well. They are somewhat quiet but at wot they can be a little noisy.

If you have a cat and a Borla it will be deep and still quiet. You also may want to look at the RX7 store and their muffler/resonator. Flows well and sounds good, very deep.

You might be able to just buy the resonator without the pipes/flanges for cheap from them.

interesting i didn't know this. Where are you guys getting this resonator and can it bolt up right to the downpipe and ypipe or does it need to be welded in? Either way doesn't matter for me just curious.
