borla exhaust on a TII??? is piping too narrow

I heard some video clips of alwayssideway's car and it sounded great, unfortunately its an NA and i want to know if the piping diameter is too small for a 350 whp application on my turbo car. I cant find the piping sizes anywhere online so im clueless on this.

Are there any other exhausts out there that arent raspy....and I dont like RB just doesnt sound ballsy enough

Last time I looked at the Borla site, they don't have one listed for the Turbo. To me it's not worth the money. Go with the RB, far superior, greater potential!

the borla exhaust is only 2.5"

I would go with 3". RB is your closest bet. You can always use the RB DP/PreSilencer from the turboback and find a 3" catback that you like, or just have a muffler shop make your own. Won't be superloud but louder than the RB.

Did the guy in that video have no cats or presilencers at all? Could account for it being a little louder. Can't remember what a Borla sounds like, only one guy in town that I know has it.

The guy who has it around here really likes it. Million Mile warranty. Its not badly priced (around $350-400 if I recall)
And apparantly sounds decent. His is on a 10AE w/ RB 2.5" DP/PS so it matchs the rest of his exhaust diameter

But I think 2.5" would choke 350rwhp a bit.

Go custom 3.5"

so the cheapest pirce I've found on the Borla catback is $458 w/ free shipping. I thought that was pretty good, but Node do you know somewhere that's cheaper? and I'm also planning on running RB DP/PS ahead of it... can't wait!!!

here is the vid clip

http://putfile.com/media.php?n=Movie1941

maybe since i have a welder i can just weld up a 3" exhaust and use borla univeral mufflers on it. I like the smooth deep sound and the RB cat backs i have heard have a raspy sound in them.

I plan on already making my own downpipe and mid pipe (all one piece) to connect to the cat back I planned to buy.

btw I dont mind paying 8-900 bucks for a great sounding exhaust. Like the reddish pind STILLWAY 3rd gen.....it sounds amazing and i dont know what exhaust it is.

does anyone have a JIC or Apexi GT (not N1).....im willing to pay i just want a non raspy sound and the ability to support 350 whp

I have the Apexi Dual N1's on my car, they are not raspy at all, nice low melow tone, I dont know what people were talking about when they said the N1's were overly loud, they are not. They sound awsome.

thanks for the input.

So i guess everyone has the concensous of the borla being too restrictive on the turbo application.

Im too damn picky so this is gonna be a tough decision for me,.

I wish there where more exhaust clips on this website.

What do you have infront of those N1's? If you have nothing then it probably doesn't sound loud because you are going deaf.

I have a Borla cat back on my AE TII and it actually helped in HP after I put it on. (Measured bt the seat of the pants). I added a Bonez down pipe later with a high flow cat. It's about three years old and the combination has been working great. The down pipe need a lot of cutting a re-welding to match up. I would look for a better fitting down pipe.
I particularly like the sound. A nice rotary growl, not too loud.

Dual 2.5" pipes have a greater area than a single 3" pipe so why would the Borla catback be a restriction?

i have the SSautochrome/Corksport 3" turboback system with a Borla XR1 secondary resonator, sounds beautiful and the whole setup only cost $380, flows like a raped ape and does not draw too much attention.

does anyone has sound clips of their exhaust.

I would love to hear the borla on the T2 and also the corksport

I am not a big fan of corksport ssautocrom exhausts just due to quality but if it sounds good...screw it!

other than that I am leaning towards the apexi GT spec exhaust it sounds deep and not raspy at all. plus 3.75 diameter piping will help out quite a bit

b/c it's not a true dual. at some point that 2.5" is collected for the entire system to flow through, as opposed to 3" for the entire flow.

I was thinking of trying your exact setup, but I was afraid it was too loud. What do you think? Keep in mind this is a daily driver, its going on a turbo vert (so it'll be even louder without a roof), and I'm used to my RB catback. I'm looking for something a little more ballsy, but I don't want to be waking the neighbors or getting tickets every month. Do you think the Borla quiets the system down to a reasonable level?

Sorry for the hijack.

wtf? Well I hope someone has a clip of one of these exhausts.

Why is it that no one on this board has any videos of their cars? Since buying an RX-7 I have had a hard time finding any vids to use for comparision in my exhaust shopping venture.

All my requirements are non restrictive fro 350whp and a deep non raspy tone. and I think the gt spec fits the bill.

but please show a borla video on a turbo2

I don't have a TII, but I swear to god when I get my exhaust I will make the bitchin'est sound clip ever posted. And guess what, it won't be recorded on a $free.99 POS camera/cellphone/cheap *** microphone having/low bitrate sampling/piece of junk. it might not have any video at all... what is the point of a video of an exhaust system??? Y'all just wait. Grrr.

im not too worried about the quitness of the system, this is a 100% track car. I want the most awesome exhaust sound I can get.

I love the Stillway red FD sound if yall have heard that clip that is exhactly what I want it to sound like.

Like I said Im willing to pay a good chuck of change for this exhaust too because for as much as I put into the car I want the sound to be mean...deep....and not tinny.

I just cant find clips to make up my mind....**** I will shell out 1100 bucks for a futisubu (sp?) exhaust as long as it is the sweetest sounding pipes they make for a turbo 2

it sounds like you should check other 7s in person, and take your time. maybe go to one of the big regional meets in your area, find cars you can hear and ask the owner what they've got on it. Or go on a tour. If you're willing to spend $1k+ on the exhaust, why not spend a couple hundred touring the country and hearing (and seeing) some really hot rotaries? the last thing you want is to mailorder and install a heavy expensive exhaust kit and then be disapointed.

This is my exhaust. It's not a borla, or rb tho. Dual GP sports. It's full 3", doesn't narrow down to 2.5, or 2.25 like rb or borla, full 3" (80mm actually, which is like 3.15) Camera was about a foot away from tip
