Borla, Apexi or Racing Beat

I want to get a cat-back exhust system for my 1987 N/A base model. I'm looking at either borla, apexi or racing beat. Just wanted to know the pros and cons of each. I also am wondering why the RB system is 300$ more than the others...? Thanks in advance

I've heard these exhausts in person. I can honestly say that RB and Borla are quality systems. Apexi while built well is not at all close to my liking it is rather loud and gaudy. IIRC N1s are more expensive than both RB and Borla.

Actually, I have never found a new RB system for under 575 bucks and mainly new Apexi systems for 500ish. So its NOT more expensive, you must've know how to shop.

All three are a great choice.

That isn't 300 dollars less expensive. Retailers have them for more money aswell.

little confusing post there. I quoted you but was refering to the price difference the original poster noted. Which is rather big for a NEW v NEW price.

borla and apexi make exhaust systems for several cars, using their universal type muffler. racing beat makes exhausts for only a few mazda cars, and have put in the R&D to do it right, best balance of tone and power.

Do you want a quiet system, or a loud one? Single or dual?

BTW - There is NO exhaust specifically made for the rotary engine LOL

the rb is made for the rx7's, that all they do is mazda rotaries, and miata, which has so many 7 parts on it. spend the money on a good exhuast i have the full rb system and love it, had the rb headers/presilencer with hks mufflers, that was also great. it was very loud compared to the rb system

FWIW, I had this exhaust on my FD and it was insanely loud. It may as well have been a straight pipe. I traded it for an HKS wich is marginally quieter. I have the RB Turbo Back on my TII and I love it. The FD will get a RB exhaust when finances allow.

I bought the rb header and presilencer for my '91 N/A off their website. Price was $430 shipped. I have a custom built, 2 1/2 " y-pipe, and two apexi titanium N1 mufflers w/removable silencers. It is extremely loud with the silencers out. I love the setup on my car, and definately notice a performance boost.

their not lying to you

racing beat is the best of all the 2nd gen exhausts. my friend has the same 90' gtu that i have and he has borla on his. i have racing beat on mine. it sounds smoother at high rpms, and it pulls smoothly the entire time. it is more expensive, but worth it.

Well I hope I can help. I have RB header, RB pre-silencer, and an Apex-i catback. It's loud. I used to have just straight pipe. Meaning all the above mentioned without the pre-silencer. Oh yeah and now I have an apex-i silencer on the exhaust. Oh by the way the apex-i is the turbo application one. I figured it would hold up better to the heat of the rotary motor.

Electric Exhaust Valve

This is an option if you want quiet and loud. I'm going to try this during the winter.

how much difference in performance and sound would a full cat back exhaust would be from the exhaust system minus the headers?

With the stock manifold, Rotary Performance downpipe/presilencer and the Borla catback, I prefer the sound of my NA over most that I have heard. The Borla mufflers are qulity, all-stainless pieces and dont look too gaudy.
