boost problems

i just installed my greddy fmic in my 89 TII and i cannot get the boost to go above 11psi. i have checked all the couplers and hose clamps because i thought i could have had a boost leak, but they are all very tight.

i disconnected the wastegate to see what would happen (yes, keeping a close eye on the boost) and it only went to about 13.5psi in 4th gear.

anyone have any ideas as to why this could be happening? before this FMIC install i tuned my fuel to 10.9:1 across the board @15psi, now i cant get get above 11psi... wtf?

This might lead nowhere, and then again it might be your problem. Is your boost sensor mounted before or after the intercooler?

uh oh, nm, read this

well then scratch that idea...

All I can think of is a damn leak.. Too bad you couldn't pressure test the intercooler to see if there are leaks..

lets here what other people have to say, hopefully they can help you, cause i can't

well, its a greddy vspec fmic kit so i highly doubt its a problem with the IC. i went through every hose clamp and made sure they were nice and tight but i think i missed one. i'll go track it down. i swear it feels and seems like a boost leak.

I wonder if there are any tricks to finding a boost leak in a turbo system...

I wasn't doubting the quality of the intercooler at all, I was doubting the packaging that shipped it to your house

how do you have your boost guage setup?

a buddy of mine swore up and down he coudln't get his t2 over 5psi. it turned out to be the crappy plastic autometer boost guage line leaking.

is it a even 11psi, or does it spike, bleed?

i actually dont have a boost gauge. i'm using the profec as a boost gauge (in visible line of site) and datalogging with the haltech.

in 2nd it hits about 9psi, 11psi in 3rd, 11-12psi in 4th.

i left the wastegate line TOTALLY OFF last night and the boost only went to 13.8psi in 4th gear.............

there is. Take a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water. Then start spraying the hell out of all the connections. Rev the car from the engine bay or have a friend do it. The soap will make bubbles where you have a leak.

fixed. cap above BAC (where the fast idle motor and hose are that go to the stock IC) was not clamped down enough, leaking only in boost...

Do you have an air compressor avaliable? If so pressurise the system and find your leak.

My stock turbo 89 TII with the Greddy FMIC would hit whatever boost I wanted...
