Well, if you had one that read - 1bar to + 1bar, I suppose you'd read the *vaccum* half of the gauge. But if you have a gauge that reads from zero to ??10psi, no, it won't do much of anything for you.

From: Findlay, Ohio for now. Thinking about moving in with your mom.
Yes you can hook a boost gauge up to your car and read vacumm all day, you can also sit there and dream about having a boosted car. You can also check out my thread and swap your car to a t2.

you do know that make vac only gauges right?

that way people won't laugh at you when they see your boost gauge and then see how slow you are...

Well, sorry to blow your minds but,

a stock S4 NA 6 port boosts 100mm/Hg or nearly 2psi boost.

Yep, NA boost via Dynamic Effect Induction.

When I was breaking in my turbo car without the turbo I had the Greddy peak recall meter and the Haltech Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor both hooked up to the intake runners instead of the plenum.

Imagine my surprise when I saw I was boosting on the Greddy gauge. Checked the data logs and yep, that FD UIM was pumping up the boost with nothing but dynamic effect supercharging.

Rule of thumb

If you don't understand it don't buy it.
If you don't know what it does don't use it.
If don't have any use for it, sell it.

The topic has been well covered, but one more point. You can use the vacuum info to drive more efficiently.

Mercedes, for example had a vacuum gauge in the cluster on various models in the 80's. It was a gauge for 'Economy'. If you're driving efficiently and using the right gear (i.e. you're not lugging or revving or hard on the gas), you will see more vaccum on the gauge.

I know this may not be the highest priority on a sports car, but if you're gonna have the gauge, you might as well know what it tells you.
