Boost and Air/Fuel gauge
Boost and Air/Fuel gauge
Just bought some autometer Boost and Air/Fuel Gauges for my 87 turbo II. I tried searching the forums, but can't find detailed instructions on where to wire these things.
1. Boost Gauge- What vacuum do I tap into? and the tubing that came with the gauge is really thin...do i need an adapter to connect the skinny tube to a larger one and then into some sort of t pipe splitting a vacuum hose? Also where should i drill a hole to get the tube into the engine bay?
2. Air/Fuel- Is there an o2 sensor on the ecu that I can tap into? if so, which wire would it be, color? where is the ecu located? is it easier to tap into the o2 sensor? and the o2 sensor is on the downpipe? i think mine is gone b/c i have an aftermarket midpipe..
pictures really help out too, i'm new with working with my t2 and am not very familiar with everything yet.

I stuck the hose from the boost guage down in one of the metal lines between the IC and the firewall on the passenger side. the very back line has a cap on it, i jusy took that off and shoved the line down there. As for the A/f Guage, i just tapped into the o2 wire right after the sensor. I reccomend running a ground for it directly from the battery because an improper ground will throw the readings greatly.
hey dude...i was having the same dillema. i got a lot of different people to send me pics and ideas on how they "T-ed" in for their boost gauge. i got mine last week and will prob put it in first week in march when i take the car out of the garage for spring.
the easiest way i found was to run the gauge tubing from the pillar thru the firewall via the hood release cable. this is sorta located below the brake master cylinder resiviour. kinda like a black cone and it has a hole with a wire running thru it already. there should be enough room to also fit the gauge tube thru...now run it along the engine side firewall to the passenger side of the vehicle...
from the responses i got...most guys "T-ed" into the boost pressure sensor line. on the passenger strut tower is the sensor box. attached to this is a tube that passes by the BOV and makes its way to the block. most guys chose a location along this line (closer to the engine block and the box) and spliced it to T into. from my understanding there is the pill restrictor in this line and its better to keep that closer to the sensor box so t-ing the boost gauge in closer to the block would keep the pill in place...
if you didn't receive a correct adaptor with the gauge...maybe the local hardware store has sometime that will work. i'd post the pics that i have of what people sent me but i'm not on my home computer...i can e-mail them to you if you want though...good luck

Hey thanx Erik. Yeah, i'd greatly appreciate any pictures. Email is Fitch285@Flash.Net.

Check this out those air/fuel gauges look cool but they aren't good for ****!!!!!. You will go crazy before you can set your car by the those lights. If setting a car was that easy everybody would be running fast no matter the modifications on the engine... So get your money back or thrade it for something else...
