"boom" from under the car?

Hey, I had an exhaust leak from the y-pipe but I got that fixed yesterday.
The guy just wielded the crack or something like that.

Anyway, I was just driving home, and I punched it in 1st. At around 5k RPMs, I heard a loud boom from under the car. I thought the crack opened again but it seems to be fine.
hmmm, what could it be?

I have a 89 GXL.

Thanks!

Wasn't a backfire was it?

It still drives fine, I think.
I think the sound barrier theory sounds more probable. :P

Did it sound like exhaust? Where was the sound located? Did it happen as you blipped the throttle? Could be a diff mount if not the exhaust...

dunno, it's just that it's the first time it happened in the 2 months I got the car. I guess it's fine then.
Thanks!

Its probably just backfire. I do it all the time. But of course I have a tII and full exhaust (DP,MP, & catback) and I pop flames on command. So I dont think its anything bad. A friend of mine has a 88 N/A and he pops and flames every now and then.

Do you have xhaust mods? If you do, then thats normal since you DID punch it.
