Bodywork progress on my FC Project.

Here are a few pictures of the bodywork I've completed on my FC so far.

First, a picture of how it started...

The car was a 1986 Luxury Coupe (base with sunroof, A/C and power mirrors). 4 Lug, etc. Had a crappy repaint, and a ROUGH interior. Hood, both fenders, mirrors, hatch, sunroof were replaced. YourSport rear spoiler was added and molded, and Versatec sideskirts were added with some slight mods. S5 trim was added, along with tails and appropriate lights. TSW Evo's were redone in bronze, sizes 17x9.5 and 17x8 on TII brakes/suspension with MK1 coilovers on Tokicos.

The first two pictures are links intentionally. I try to respect the rules here, so if you want to discuss what's under the (missing) hood, PM me or somesuch, there are enough flames on here. I figure the CAI may have some relevance regardless of engine, so I left that visible.

CAI all painted up. (still no lid, obviously)

Molded spoiler with hatch.

straight job on the spoiler, you did the body work yourself?

did you panel bond the spoiler? what type of fillers did you use?

spoiler looks good, what did you do? buy a spoiler, blend with bondo, sand then prep and paint?

Thanks. The spoiler is bonded a few ways. The front had the metal under it etched/sealed, then it was bonded with fiberglass mat/resin (about 6 layers) which I then leveled and filled with kitty hair (no more the 1/16" deep) then skimmed off with some duraglass and finally some bondo professional (just a paper then final leveling coat). The spoiler is also screwed in from the back (hatch side) as well. The glass goes from the top of the spoiler down about 6-7" on the body sides. The resin I used is supposed to etch into bare steel which is what it was applied to (40 grit roughed), so it shouldn't give me too much flack.

The car doesn't see temperatures below ~40* or above 100*, no rain, no snow, and no humidity beyond my somewhat climate controlled garage. That should also help any worries as far as bond goes.

edit: The whole paint job was done by a friend and I in my garage, from a bare metal up rework. It's a 2K etching primer with 2K urethane high build primer, then a 2 part urethane paint followed by a multipart clear. It's not a showcar, but it's at least as good as stock, and a lot better then 99% of 20 year old paint jobs. Should hold up well with Zaino and an indoor existence.

good good....shouldn't have any readthrough on that spoiler for long time, but being a body man I always shudder a bit when I see people shaving stuff...

but you've done a nice job there, straight body work, good materials and you voila - a nice looking FC, that can also be wet sanded and buffed, gotta love that!

Thanks. It was my first full scale body project, and I did miss a few little dings, and spent a LOT longer then I needed to working on it, but next time I do one, it should go a LOT smoother and end up a better final project. It was also my friend's first time shooting clear since school (SEVERAL years ) so we had some learning curve there as well, but all in all it came out pretty well.

I'm looking forward to the next car (either 67-69 Camaro or an FD, haven't decided yet), to see what we can accomplish on the body of it. It will be, of course, black.

Realy nice. Black covers like *** very hard to spray. Not a fan of molding but I dont realy dislike yours. It looks like a realy good job.
