Exclamation Bluish White Smoke Above 5000rpm -- Please Help!!

Hi Guys,

So here's my lament...

My '88 'vert been sitting a little more than she should lately. I make a point of starting her every week or so and bringing her up to temp. It's been about 10 days since I last ran her.

This morning I started her up, everything's fine. I idle her for five mintues or so...oil pressure, idle speed, temp...all good. So I put my foot in and get the revs up to 5000rpm and bluish/white smoke come puring out of the exhaust. I release the gas, idle back down to 750, and the smoke disappears...all fine. So I slowly bring the revs up again. 2K, nothing. 3K, nada. 4K...4500, all clear. As soon as I hit 5000rpm, out come the clouds.

So what could the problem be? How bad is this? Am I totally screwed, or is there a 'normal' answer for this?

Thanks for the help guys. Anything you can give me would be appreciated

Joshua

how long has it been since the oil was changed?

Also, just starting and running it doesn't help.. the car needs DRIVEN..

You could have bad oil control rings, but if I were you, I'd change the oil, fill the gas tank, and go drive it for half an hr or so. NOT too hard, just gently until the car gets used to going again..

the pressure is building up inside the engine... at 5000, aparently its too much for the oil control rings to handle...

Might also have some seal problems there as well...

And you should drive it..... putting a load on the engine rather than just free spinning it..

Also, it wll help the drive drain and suspension parts from becomming sticky

There's only about 250mi on a new oil change...but the change was about two months ago. I'll try taking her out for a spin, I just didn't want to drive her if she was about to blow!

So...

Oil control rings & seals...how big of a problem is that? Excuse my ignorance, but I'm new to the rotary world and I'm still learning ALOT!

Thanks,

Joshua

Oil control rights generaly require a rebuild. You might try running some MMO in your gas tank to loosen those seals back up.

Okay, sorry (again) for the ignorance...what's MMO, and where can I get it?

LOL. That's exactly what I was thinking as I read the post. Funny thing is I'm usually just as bad.
