Question Blowing a rotary

Hey guys. Im new here, and also new to the rotary world. I want to learn a few things about the rotary engine.

The first is as follows :

What does it take to blow a rotary?? How much do you have to rev, to actually over rev?? How about water induction, how does the rotary handle that?? Can you "lean" a rotary out, what happens when you do?? What are the cycles (intake, compression, combustion, exhaust type of deal) on a rotary??

How does the rotary react to mods? What exactly is a street port, and how much power does it give you? What does it mean to "have all ports open"? What are these ports, and what does having them "open" do?? Does disconnecting you a/c, powersteering and all that stuff, how much power does it free up? Or is it more for the weight savings and ability to rev faster? These are all I can think of for now, I know there is more, ill post them when they come to mind. Thanks guys.

I'd check http://www.howstuffworks.com . They have a good introduction to the Wankel Rotary Engine.

What does it take to blow a rotary??
too lean with boost-- apex seals let go

How much do you have to rev, to actually over rev??
rotarys take to over reving better than piston engines (8500 rpm on a stock engine is considered threshold)

How about water induction, how does the rotary handle that??
it works--people do it

Can you "lean" a rotary out, what happens when you do??
any engine will perform better(power to heat) with the correct afr

What are the cycles (intake, compression, combustion, exhaust type of deal) on a rotary??
the same four cycles

How does the rotary react to mods?
great!

What exactly is a street port, and how much power does it give you?
i guess it give decent power, people do it (search!)

What does it mean to "have all ports open"?
refering to N/a, they have a pair of aux. ports that are closed during low rpm, and get opened at higher rpm

What are these ports, and what does having them "open" do??
flows more air/fuel into the engine

Does disconnecting you a/c, powersteering and all that stuff, how much power does it free up?
not sure, but my car sure feels faster

Or is it more for the weight savings and ability to rev faster?
both

These are all I can think of for now, I know there is more, ill post them when they come to mind. Thanks guys.

whew!, that was a lot of questions!

haha ^

Thanks for the link guys, I remember reading that, but it was so long ago, and I forgot all about that website.

I guess that answers my 4 stroke question, lol.

Also, whats the durability of a rotary, how many miles before you need to seriously start replacing stuff, and having problems? Thanks again.

some second gen rx7s need rebuilding early on in life... mainly due to poor maintence.

if the cooling and oil system was well maintained, then id say 200k miles is easily achievable.
