Block Off Plates Question.

Ok, I am just pissed. This is a simple question, but please bear with me.

I have had an idle problem for a while and I can't figure it out. TPS checks out perfectly, no vac leaks, no nothing. I have a random idle of 1500 RPM that is slightly irritating... no, it is just plain irritating and I can't track down what is causing it for the life of me. If I turn on the AC The idle drops to a perfect 750 RPM. After deciding that there are just to many things to go wrong, I have decided to simplify things and remove damn near everything that I can. So...

ergo...

I am going to remove the BAC, airpump, and anything else that pisses me off while I am under the hood. I will be keeping the thermowax and coldstart because I don't want to have to deal with having to play with the throttle when she is cold. My question is, with everything removed, including emissions, will this alter drivability in anyway or make coldstarts a PITA?

Also, if anyone may have any other ideas why my idle is messed up, please feel free to chime in and enlighten me with more ideas.

Thanks.

Thermowax is not operating properly.
Sometimes the coolant passages to and from the thermowax get clogged, and this prevents (hot) coolant from hitting the thermowax for proper operation.

Also, a dirty TB (plates) can cause the butterflies to not close all the way, causing a high idle.

Listen to Ted, keep the BAC and check the thermo wax. It's the thermo wax's fast idle cam that can stick sometimes and cause the 1500rpm idle when you don't want it (it's supposed to cause 1500rpm idle during warmup). Removing the BAC will amplify your idle headaches.

Is there any way to clean the passages to the thermowax or should I just go ahead and pull the throttlebody and clean everything right the first time?

Don't answer that question, I can hardly believe I just asked it.

I'll give it a go and let you know if that fixes it.

On a side note, can't removal of emmisions be done without messing up the idle? My friend has removed everything from his car and it idles fine, but he is using a Haltech so he has an unfair advantage.

I just installed the DP and MP and I wanted to go ahead and remove the airpump and all pieces relevant to it because it does nothing anymore. So can I remove those pieces without hurting reliability and streetability?

Thanks
