blazing hot cargo area

I just recently purchased a 1989 GTUs (my third RX-7). I haven't put to many miles on it (still only 45,000 original) yet. I took it to the grocery today and when I got home and took the groceries out, they were blazing hot as well as the carpeted cargo area. I have always driven an RX-7 and can't recall this on my 86 or 90 cars. I do live in Florida and this car is not tinted (as the others are) so that may account for some of it; but the heat is really unbelievable.

I case you are curious, the A/C cools the car fine, the Tstat is OK, car is running cool on the temp guage etc.

Could it be the rear heating up (this car has a limited slip diff and my other cars don't) or the cat heating and the heat rising through the cargo area?

Please help!!!

Thanks,

Bob

Clogged cats, missing heat shield under the car, no tint, exhaust leak, etc...

That would be my guess.

Wow, congrats on getting a GTUs!! How do you like it? What color, how much?! Inquiring GTUs owners wanna know!

About the cargo area, I think Vaughnc covered it.

If the car is black or some other dark color, and doesn't have tint, there is your problem. Mine get so hot, I cant even touch my tool box or anything that sits back there. Ive had lots of stuff melt in my cargo area. Get it tinted dark and I bet it goes away. Thats if the car is running well.
