Question Black out Center of Tailight?

I was thinking of black out the center of my s5 tailights. You Would still be able to see the tailight and brakelight. Basically look like R33 skyline tails. Is this legal and has anyone done it?

"Blacking out" any stock light is illegal by federal law, it voids the DOT/SAE approval of that light. That means you are personally resonsible for any problems resulting from that blacked out light.

Gee, he said "basically look like R33 taillights"

At night, you'd have to be right behind the car to realize it was an RX-7 with non-stock taillights. That's completely not worth the effort and legal liability.

Skyline taillights are specifically designed to look the way they do and still put out sufficient light. They are not just a normal round light with a blanked out bit in the middle. You would be seriously reducing light output, and that's just stupid.

Go ahaead and do it.. Just remember.... If I"M the one who ******** you at a stop light... Me and my lawyer are going to have one HELL of a field day with you..... It was posted above.. If you modify the tailights on your car, (or ANY indicator light) and are involved in an accident.. and the other guy or his insurace company or the cops notice that you have altered the SAFTEY equipment on your car.. you are open to a lawsuit.

How do I know... My buddy is a lawyer... he just got a settlemnt for some old lady who assholed a ricer, and it was six figures, SHE hit HIM at a stoplight.. but HE had blacked out the tails on his old style Celica Supra so that they were round... (actually, he painted the exterior of the lights to match the paint on his car and left circles for the lights, i remember the car)

Now the kid is in litigation because his insurance company doesn't want to pay saying that the kid modified the safety equipment on his car without their knowledge and therefore HE is liable.... the guy could have his wages garnished for a very long time depending on how this goes....

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to be sued due to taillight modification. I personally have a real problem seeing certain styles of Altezza lights. I can't tell when they are on or off...

Regardless, the main reason I posted here is to let everyone know to keep this thread friendly. If you must offer your opinion on the lights, then do so in a respectful mannor. Thanks.
