Black door panels - triple black combo?
Black door panels - triple black combo?
I picked up a set off eBay for a decent price, so now I started looking around for them in the For Sale sections...
I noticed almost all of them have a gray fabric panel insert with a gray carpet lower - base models?
The all leather ones have the leather center panel with black carpet lower.
My panels were supposed off a JDM FC, but they are not leather.
The center panel is BLACK.
The lower panel carpet is BLACK.
Does this combination exist on any of the U.S. FC's?

Oh, so it sounds like there's a difference between the vert and the coupe door panels?
I'd figure it was some kinda trim thing - maybe different between base model versus GXL / Turbo II or something like that...
You guys got the speaker panel built into it, right?
Actually, that was the reason why I bid on them.
I didn't think I was going to win them. :P
Now I get a chance to put speakers in my doors on my '87.
Thanx for the replies!

Yup the top portion of the panel is black leather, the middle is black leather, and the bottom where the speaker is black plastic. Less pocket space to put **** in but I like the door speaker soooo much better than the under dash crap in my GXL.

for the US fc's, there are a few different ones.
manual window, its flat bottomed (no map pocket) has that grey canvas houndstooth stuff as a center insert.
gtus; has a manual window door panel, with a grey velour material, dark grey, like off black
power window gtu; has the map pocket, same grey houndstooth canvas stuff, as the non power
power window gxl; has a velour insert, its a stripe pattern to match the seats, its got black, grey, and red in there
t2; has a black or dark grey velour
theres one for leather too....
not sure what the verts have, a cloth seat s5 vert must be rare

But other than that, they fit fine.
The other spot you may run into troubles on, is that the lower speaker spot (as found on all S5 models) that the lower speaker mounts into the metal with is only found in the Jan 88 and later production doors.
So if you are trying to fit speakers down there and you have the earlier doors, you will need to cut metal. What I typically do is cut a piece of alum sheet, rivet and glue it to the door metal, then cut my speaker hole into that and through both layers of the metal. This way you have a nice solid panel to mount the speaker on, and it lines up with the holes in the S5 door panels.

My 90 vert panels have a smooth perforated leather insert, rather than the non-perforated 'gathered/bunched/wrinkled" looking leather inserts I see on TII's.
There is a pocket along the front lower that integrates into a front 6.5" speaker. Black carpet lower is also part of the S5 Vert. door panels
As Icemark says, they will easily interchange with the coupe panels.

I know the leather panels are all black...
I was just wondering about the one with the fabric center panel...
No, no patterns!
Sorry for all the white specs on the panels - pieces of foam peanuts still stuck on there. :P
Never had to time to vacuum / clean it up yet.
Thanx Icemark on the tip with the speaker set-up!

You can remove the panel pretty easily - I've done it before.
Just gotta watch it if the clips / pins break. :P
You can always glue it back in!

My 91 vert is triple black as was my 88 10AE.
The picture shows another triple black out of an 89 TII I use to have (or was it the 90 TII???). I have the full interior and more crap from it still. Posted them on e-bay awhile back with no bidders.
I still have the pair of door panels, both in excellent shape and they are for sale btw
