That's quite a question. I would say it depends on the condition. I saw a 10AE I wouldn't give you $500 for. What a bomb. Every panel was dented, body rust, and it looked like a gorilla was let loose inside the car, and oh, it needed an engine, clutch, syncros, and exhaust......But the radio worked. I took one look at it and asked the fellow if he wanted me to tow it away!

Most female driven cars that I've known have been complete ****. They get a nice car and drive it into the ground. But for $500? That's a good deal even if you have to sink some money into it.

Flawed female stereotyping not withstanding, logic would conclude that for a $500 asking price she is either ignorant, or the car is a total POS. If she is ignorant, then the car was most likely poorly maintained, and is therefore a POS. Either way, the condition of the car is looking pretty sketchy at this point. However, it's going to take a lot more than pure speculation to tell for sure.
Nobody ever believes me when I say that a TII swap isn't worth the time and money. Oh well, at least the TII swap is a good learning experience.
Unless you have one heck of a high-paying job, I recommend selling one. The insurance alone is going to suck. Trust me, I know.

It wasn't a TII, she was confused....
I saw this when it hit the Recycler last Sunday, so was already ahead of you. It is a 90 GXL that was originally red, now black. Only odd thing is that it has S4 tail lights (thats a good thing in my book, I'm SUCH a Rebel).
Body is straight. A few interior cosmetic issues, nothing major. Everything works. Car runs and drives fine. Clutch, brakes, and tires are in really good shape. Primary issue is it has a salvage title and needs a VIN and Taillight inspection to get it titled (already check and they're good to go).
What did I pay? I put a couple of the tires on my Vert and I'm profitable on my investment.
PLEASE don't start PMing me for parts, at least not yet I need a few weeks to check everything out and see whats what to decide whether to clean it up and re-sell the car, or indeed part it. May save it for the So Cal 7 swap meet later this year.

Ok, for perspective on THIS car...
The girl selling it has never even driven it. Her parents wouldn't let her because of "issues". So, this Rex dodged the dreaded "woman owned" curse, at least on her part. This car has a few issues, but not her doing.
And I agree that this can be a curse. My daughter blew up the Engine in her Corolla by driving it for at least 200 miles with no oil in it. Threw a rod that blew a hole the size of a fist through the engine block. This AFTER I demonstrated HOW while giving her the speech about WHY checking her car's fluids every weekend is necessary.

given there's no rust and it hasn't been wrecked, i'll buy it.
SlayerwithaFC3S - Scroll up. Sorry dude. But, honestly I saw and talked to her way before you did.
3isacharm - Make me an offer that covers shipping. But, you should wait a few weeks so I can check everything out and make a list of actual deficiencies. But, they look to be all cosmetic. No rust, no wrecks that I could see. And I crawled all over it JUST to confirm that.
