Bizzare speedo problem

I just got my idle to a clean smooth 750.

I can go all the way to 9K cause the VDI and 6 ports are working.

I took it for a test drive and it was performing at its best. I got a real stiff chubby....

That chubby was abruptly canceled when all of the sudden my speedo dropped to el-zero even though I was going about 65mph...

Then about 2 minutes later as I was attempting to get back home the tach drops to el-zero and the engine is dead.

So I get out and look at the speeod cable to transmission.... Toast. its dragging on the ground. Odd cause I've never touched that damn thing. And also its not leaking fluid, the colar part came loose from the tranny end, so the lower half is still attached to the tranny.

Anyway.

Why would a speedo cable malfunction cause the engine to loose spark? (BTW eng 15A is okay)

Is it a fail safe? Because the ECU thinks the speedo cable dropped out and you're leaking tranny fluid out so it shuts down before you cause tranny damage?

Or what?

You can drive all day with your speedo disconnected. Your problems may NOT be interrelated (sorry!).

Your dead engine sounds like a possible CAS problem.

my speedo cable has been out for a week. they just inch out because of all the vibrations. but as i said its been out for a week...and it still drives like normal. the piece it attaches too probably fell out, the whole thing is like 50 from mazdatrix for a new one. I think the car dying thing is not from the speedo cable missing. I don't think 9000rpm is such a good idea, even if it is an s5 na..just my opinion.

The speedo is not connected to the ECU in any way.

I don't think the two problems are related. You're just unlucky.

I belive the only thing the speedo-cable is hooked up to is the speedometer. It also turns the odometer.

Me thinks this is sound advice. I'm not red lining it everytime. just every so often so I know I got the umph throughout the entire band between tune up proceedures as I just set my TPS.

But you're right, chubbies will have to be sprung by other means.

I totally agree.

I was just really hoping that the Mazda engineers we're smoking their pot....."dude, wouldn't it like be cool, if like, we had, like a....tranny cut off switch.............yeah Duuuuude, whoa..

Wishful thinking on my part, but considering both faliures occured within minutes of each other I thought just.... maybe.

I have really strange luck actually....its called the null luck.

As i was pulled over on a country backroad...a car pulled up. Low and behold and it was my budy Isaac coming back home from work. He's got a 50 jeep *****'s and he's a motor head like me. I was really happy because I didn't have a cell and I was about 3 miles from any phone.

Null and void.

So he picked me up we went home got ze' chain and my babies home now.

Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure it's the CAS....I have like four of those out in the garage.....Everything will be okay I'll figure it out.
