Billet Coolant neck.....

Well have begun doing the tune ups and fixing random broken stuff on my new ride. One broken piece was the coolant cap neck on the engine. Crappy plastic with metal inserts. I turned this out in some free time thursday and friday night from some aluminum remnant. Its a little rough but its a prototype and it works fine.

I would imagine I'm not the only person who doesn't like this plastic bit. This threads purpose is to actullay find out if anyone would want to buy some of these. Does anyone know of a company selling them already? I'm not actually selling any yet, I just want to find out if it would be worth my time to make the tooling and make them more finished to do a small run of these. Maybe like 25 to start. I need a way to generate some money to buy a rebuild kit. I was thinking they would prob be about $25 maybe $30 a piece. Let me know what you guys think.

$30? I'll take a bunch! Hell, I think you should sell them for $50 EACH!
Go drop a thread in the 3rd gen section, cause I bet they would be eager to but some.

I usually steal them of FD's, since they come stock as cast aluminum, but yours is a super nice piece!

Great job!

Here's a shot of the one i got from my parts order from mazdaspeed. I'm trying to find the P/n so you all can price them locally. I don't believe it was over 30-35.

Here is the Mazdatrix one for the FC, one with overflow the other without overflow. The pricing includes a new cap, does NOT include a new o-ring I don`t think.
Remember these are stock parts so they are plastic I believe.
Just FYI.

If you can do one of your aluminium ones with the overflow I`d want one as well.

i honestly dont think the overflow pipe would be too difficult...all u'd have to do is drill and tap another piece onto it right?

I'm in for 1.
I think it would be easier to drill and tap a nipple in yourself if you needed it.

Yeah sounds like I should start making these things. Because of how they get machined it won't be hard to drill and tap each neck and thread in a hose barb. It wouldn't be practical to make it all from one though. I'll have to price out material costs and come up with some better part prices. It may take me a couple weeks to get some ready to sell I'll let you guys know.

I think you are right about drill and tapping the piece and using a brass, threaded, barbed fitting.
Keep us all posted as to when we can order or even pre-pay (Paypal) if we want, so you can purchase any stock to get you started.

I wouldn't use a brass fitting. I wuold just turn out little aluminum nipples. That way once the nipple is threaded in I could just do a little TIG tack weld to keep the niple from ever coming out.
