Im trying to find out the biggest possible rim and tire combination for my 87 fc. im looking to stay around a 17 inch rim but need to know how wide i can go and what the backspacing needs to be.

dont buy rims, buy wheels. theyre much nicer.

 

you can go as big as you want, 26's will fit with a bit of 2x4 wood shoved inbetween the springs, and a few hockey pucks bolted on top of each strut

I like to point and laugh at the people that ride through my neighborhood in John Deere schemed El Caminos with Flowmaster dual truck exhaust and 32's or '84 Chevy Caprices with a full "Coke" paint schemes also running dual truck exhaust and ridin on 26" solid rims.

Sometimes I see some that look pretty good for that genre and I catch myself imagining that I drive one. Some of them look clean. I can appreciate any style of vehicle as long as I think it looks good.

u know, as funny as they look, and as pointless as they may seem, i have to hand it do them for pulling that off. i figure it this way:
there are a lot of different ways to modify or customize a car. some like big rims, some like crazy huge wings, some like body kits, some like engines that are completely different from the norm..... etc.
i have respect for anyone who modifies there ride, as long as the craftsmanship is well thought out and carried out.
to each there own, whatever floats your boat. that kind of thing.
