What's the biggest FMIC that will fit in an FC? I don't mind cutting the bumper.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...3&d=1186131875 looks like that one is a 24x12x3

maybe fit a 31" wide or a 27"? I think a 27x12x3 might fit in there nicely

I still need to take my bumper off and see, but I thought I'd ask you guys first

I have a 24x12x3 FMIC setup, and the bumper was left intact.
edit: Oh yes, this is the largest FMIC I've seen on a FC... I'm sure there are some out there much larger though.

Do you still have a bumper core?

Have any pics with the bumper cover off?

I dont have any pics with the bumper cover off. I have additional bracing in the front end to help keep things rigid up front since the bumper core has be removed.

The big NPR intercoolers are badass!! Ive always run one of those FMICs, Theyre big and cheap and the piping is soooo simple.

Take the bumper off. You may not go about the installation the same as others, so your required dimensions may be different than what you read on the internet. I recommend making a cardboard mock-up before buying an intercooler, and make sure you plan for plumbing.

Mine is about 26x15.6x3.5" (20x15.6x3.5" core) and is rated for 1500hp @ 1.5psi pressure drop. It is mounted in front of the crossmember by the radiator rather than in the front fascia, so the hood latch had to be removed.

You can cut the front fascia, but you may want to consider that brake ducts that allow the car to stop and aerodymanics that keep the car on the road may be more important than 1-2% intercooler efficiency. It's not a good idea to cut the bumper due to safety reasons.

The really large intercoolers tend to be on cars with cut-up or removed bumpers, and/or blocked brake ducts. Not good.

Are you actually making enough power to justify the "biggest FMIC that will fit in an FC?" Or is this just one of those look-at-me things...

^^ I'm not sure a 13b can generate enough power to justify needing the biggest intercooler that can fit in an FC. If so, I really wonder what the 20b guys do.

The next question is, what's the biggest FMIC mounted to an FC without totally destroying the inside of the bumper or cutting out supports?

Mine is about 24" x 14" x 3", mounted behind the bumper reinforcements just below the hood latch. I suspect you could go just a little wider (maybe an inch or so) but that's about the limit.

Well that makes sense then. What kinda snail(s) are you putting on what kinda block? It sounds like you're shooting for >1000hp if you're looking at a turbo V8.

I've seen that in an issue of Hot Rod. The only thing I remember is that the car was red and the plumbing looked like sex.

3.5" is what I recommend and what I have. 4" you end up scrapping the intercooler just trying to place it...

And why the hell would someone want to remove th bumper?!?

Are you guys crazy? I mean, you're using the **** to race, and you're removing the bumper?

Did you know a guy named guitarjunkie28?

And what are you putting out? 700hp? Why do you need the biggest intercooler ever? Leave that **** intact and you might stay intact.
