bigger brake question..... will anything fit?
will anything from another car fit ours? because im noticing alot of newer cars with bigger brake rotors and such and it seems like out of all of them something should fit. any ideas? maybey the new mustangs? it infinitiys?
why??? are you overheating the brakes currently???
Or just for looks???
Bigger brake rotors= bigger brake calipers= more weight= worse handling suspension & longer starts=slower car
You want the brakes as small as will do the job, so you have less sprung weight and rotational mass

To be honest, from my personal experience (40 - 0 tests are fun!!) the stock rotors get the job more than done and thank goodness for NO ABS... ABS can be your worst enemy sometimes. (My 7 doesn't have ABS anyway, yours may.)

i was just interested in the stopping gains, and i figured if theres something out there that'll fit then get the calphers and buy new rotors and vuwala big brake kit the economic way. its moreso an alternitive i was pondering for people looking to upgrade. not nessisarilyl me, but i wouldnt mind.

The best mod you can do for your actual stopping distances would be stickier tires. That article explains all the nuances to a well-tuned braking system. Bigger calipers & rotors do NOT mean better stopping distances.

Bigger brake rotors will increase the leverage that you can apply to your brakes, but will not directly lead to better stopping distances. It basically will allow you to better 'feel' where the braking threshold is and come close to locking the tires w/o actually lockin em. Larger rotors and better brake pads w/ good tires are the best upgrade - IMHO- its very comforting knowing you can slow down fast. One way to look at it is: if your stock brakes can lock your tires, your tires are what need the upgrading, not the brakes. If you can mash your brakes and the tires never lock, your brakes need upgrading/fixing... Big brakes WILL make a noticable detremental difference in acceleration and in performance, but are very reasuring in a car that has a bit of power. If you have the stock 4 pot brakes, just get some good nissin pads or something. Should help quite a bit.
-And to give you an idea of the stock 4pot brakes vs AEM big brake kit for a civic: well, the stock brakes on the rx7 are right up there w/ the feel of the brakes, and w/ some better pads, and some new (perhaps slotted) rotors, would be on par/greater than AEM's single pot big brake kit.

Oh ya- the brake pedal 'travel distance' gets a bit larger as well- which is why I said you can more easily find the optimum braking threshold (to close to locking the tires w/o actually locking them).
Oh ya- On cars w/ good ABS units, the larger brake rotors will increase braking distances because the ABS w/ allow the tires to get closer to their limits of tration w/o exceding them. But the Rx7's ABS is not up to that task.. Its to old and is most likly failing.. Also the tolerances are not as good as a newer cars ABS units. What I mean by that is the stock ABS will let off prematurely, before the tire is actually going to lock, while newer ABS units will allow the tire to get much closer to the locking point (and keep it closer to that point).

now for your rotors...slotted and drilled brembo will do they are just about the same size as stock
you cant get no better stopping power
brackets-150.00
brembo calipers- 600.00
brembo rotors- 200.00
still under a grand and 60-0 will show
