Big Problems

I have an 86 Gx. None turbo model, about 182, KM. Here's my problem. My cooling system seams to be over pressurizing and blowing all the coolant out of the system into the overflow bottle.

Systoms - I took the rad cap off when I first start the car and have noticed bubbles coming up from some where.

What some have told me - 1 - Could be an intake seal blown and thus causing air to be pushed into the cooling system and therefore over pressurizing it.

2 - Blown housing “I didn't want to hear this one”
Causing the same affect as above.

3 - Blown o ring. Again same as above.

Not a lot of people I have talked to are familure with this problem; myself I'm ready for the worst.

I've even heard it's as easy to fix as replacing the manifold seals.

The engine itself even with this problem, runs very strong in fact there is no loss in horse power, no hesitation no nothing very smooth.

The only tell tale sign there is, is the over pressurization of the system hence the overflow bottle filling up and then the little buzzer going off saying check coolant.

Now the car was once overheated -not for long- Turned car off right away - I know this is bad but the problem did not occur right after, in fact it was almost a year after the overheating that I started getting my problems.

P.S They really needed to work on the coolant alarm, man can it startles you when it goes off.

So to rebuild or not to rebuild to replace seals or not. This is my question.

you will need to rebuild, and replace seals, and possibly housings and plates (depending on what blew out and corroded when you over heated it).

The intake manifolds do not have coolnat running through them so the person that said intake seals must have been thinking of a mid-eightes inline 4 toyota or Nissan motor.

Before you go and buy a new car/engine, try adding some block weld to your cooling system. I did this to an engine with a bad coolant seal with the same symptoms as you, and it fixed the problem. The engine is still running to this day and never blows the rad. caps anymore. =P You can buy the stuff at any autoparts store. There is a good write up on how to do it somewhere on on this site. Does anybody else have the link?
