I'm 6'6" and have owned both. The second gen has more room and you can fit comfortably. The first gen is a tight fit and it is almost impossible to drive with the stock sterring wheel. It hits your legs and it makes it very hard to turn. That being said I have an aftermarket steering wheel in the first gen and prefer it over the second gen.
There are plenty of suspension choices for the first gen just not some of the in vogue JDM brands. Click the respeed link, he offers front coilovers and rear adjustable spring perches.
