big guy in a little car

I am considering getting an rx7 but as always i have to consider my height. Being 6'6" I have to ask which would be better for me first or second gen. I would rather go with a 2nd gen because i havent seen very much aftermarket for a first gens suspension.
thanks zeth

Zeth,
I'm 6'4" and drive my 88 convertible daily. A coupe MIGHT not have quite as much headroom clearance. You should be OK on leg room. Also: the seat brackets can be lowered about 3/4" if you're willing to lose seat adjustment and find somebody with a metal shop to build them...
Good luck!

I'm 6'6" and I drive a 91 coupe as my daily during the summer! Mine doesnt have an adjustable steering column but I still fit fine. If I could adjust the column Im sure it would be better but still no problem without! Good luck, Pat.
P.S.- Go look at one and test drive it to see how you feel in it!

First off, a coupe had more head room than a vert.

Second, I have a coupe, am 6'5" and fit in perfectly with room to spare.

Spec.

If you can find one without a sunroof then that's prefereable, as it'll have more headroom, as the sunroof takes up some of that space.

I'm "only" 6'3" and I fit fine. One thing that I did that made the car more comfortable to drive was to get an aftermarket steering wheel setup that moved the wheel closer to me, so that when the seat's all the way back and I'm slightly reclined to get enough leg and headroom, I'm not reaching quite so far for the wheel. You can do this either with a wheel with a lot of dish to it, or with a flatter wheel and a spacer or a quick release.

If he can fit in this, you can fit in the 7. Worst case scenario; you modify the rails.

I'm 6' 3" and i have no trouble getting into my second gen.

On a second thought, not having as many "after market" choices for suspension is NOT a good reason to not consider a first gen, there are plenty of good reasons to get a 1st gen, but i'm no expert, if you want a really good opinion go to the 1st gen threads.

Well 6'+ isn't so rare these days. I've got a great uncle that's 6'10" IIRC.

For me anything much smaller starts to get uncomfortable. I'm definetely cramped when I'm in my dad's roll bar equipped Miata (the roll bar takes up some seat travel and head room in order to keep your head from being able to bash against it). Exiges are rather small too, but I fit in it with a helmet on.

I'm 6'6" and 240. I have BOTH a 'vert and a 'coupe. Coupe has more headroom but 'vert can be driven with the seat back. 'Vert is a lot of fun with the top down but for love of God, tall or not get a roll bar if you have 'vert (a real roll bar, not a pretty one).
