Fuel Economy:

Full Open Exhaust (RacingBeat headers, cat front, cat back)
Open Intake
Cold Airbox & headlight scoop or FTP air duct
New Sparkplugs
Bettery Sparkplug Wires
Shift @ 3500rpms
Set Wheelbearing bolts to minimum torque setting
Lighterweight oils (engine/trans/diff)
Lighten Car
Remove Engine Drags (air conditioning, upgrade to electric fan, power steering, air pump)
Racing Catalytic Converter (I like magnaflow's single replacement cat).
Swap to lightweight Convertible RX-7 BBS Rims & Wheels

I actually might move on to a 3rd Gen fuel pump instead of the Walbro 255.

what about running propane as an alternate fuel kind like a hybrid. lean out the fuel consideratly and run more propan then gas. since propane is less right now but when you run out of propane you will still have some gas your gastank

why not add less Fuel and add some oxygen? Im sure there is a way for a computer to add More oxygen. Im not trying to say i know everything, thats far from the truth.. Just dont understand why we cant carry Oxygen bottles and use less fuel! yes pure oxygen will explode and all but can it be controlled???

shift in accordance with the shift light on the dash. Does wonders with around town mileage.

Make the car lighter: remove spare tire, tools and the jack.

drive like your grandma, open up your intake and exhaust, change the O2 sensor, keep tire pressure where it should be, ride your bike instead.

When i put my borla catback on my car compared to stock i picked up an extra 30 miles to the tank driving the exact same. In city driving i used to get about 230 to a tank but now i get 260 and i havent tried a highway trip yet. I could only imagine what it would do if i took off the cats and smog pump. I shift at about 3k.

I do remember getting 9 or 10 miles a gallon at one time, i gutted the cat, got new spark plugs and wires, set my tps, did my timing, set my tires too like 45 or 50 psi, who knows what else, then i got like 21 mpg, on stock ecu, that was before my engine blew, and that was on bad compression, cant wait too see what it will do with good comp

Damn, rocket- I have the twin to your 'vert, and my little piggy can't get any more than 200 miles per tank before the low fuel warning light comes on... ):

Oh yeah- no cats (Bonez downpipe) and open intake (Bonez element w/ vented headlight cover)

My AFM gauge is almost always in the rich zone when not in closed loop...

There is no way the FC is going to get 25mpg unless you're driving constantly on the freeway.
If you do any amount of city and stop-n-go driving, you're not going to get over 20mpg.

Sorry, but that's the nature of the beast...

wow i would think you would be doing better than me with all the exhaust and intake stuff. This vert has been economical compared to my other rx7s ive owned and honestly there is no explanation because ive driven them all the same. The only difference was that i autocrossed the other 2 and i dont race this one. Last trip i took i got 310 miles to the tank and it was 99% highway. But that was still with the stock exhaust that had a couple leaks. Where do you shift at?

Over inflate the tires past 32 psi...reduces rolling resistance.

I wonder if the ricers will take their wings of to save gas....hummmmm

my FC gets 20mpg around town with a lot of 7.5k shifting. That's with the 5/6 ports wired open. With them closed I can get 24-25 with the same driving around town. My mods are no emissions/ac and a header + 3" back and some crappy cone filter that I think I'm going to replace with a red oil rag.

Well, do a tuneup. Make sure everything works properly. Eliminate unnessesary weight and drive like an old lady. I can feel a slight resistance in the accelerator pedal when the secondary throttle butterflies open, so I push the pedal only to that point. Also, make sure your tires are properly inflated. And make sure you don't have any dragging brakes. I would average 25 mpg. I think that's about as good as you can get with one of these cars, which isn't too bad. It's all a matter of common sense.

On a side note, Use a "Fish carburetor. Rumor has it they could get very good milage back in the old days, but the oil companies made sure the technology wouldn't get out.

never. they think that the wing reduces drag, and that it has a positive impact on their milage.
