Definately go for a turbo in you can find one. I got an N/a and I'm kind of regretting it. If your looking for a more dependable longer lasting engine though, I would go with an N/a. Of course this all depends on how you treat the motor.

Well if your going turbo the first thing i would do is open up the exhaust. Your probably going to be better off asking some of the more experienced people on this forum. Like rico05, he seems to know his **** pretty well. Hes helped me with a lot of my stuff.

If I were you I would go for the turbo if you can find one and afford it. Otherwise you are going to regret the lack of power when a supercharged civic pulls up next to you. You have to represent!!!

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Series 4 88.
Mazda fixed all the little things, that were problems on the 86 (like rear hatch glass attachment, warning cluster, injector impedence, other issues), still had the lightweight german Jack and spare, still had a fast lock up LSD (except on base/SE and 'verts), body was 100-150 lbs lighter than the series 5.
Didn't have the lame mouse belts or air bags, wasn't on the cost crunch that lead to things like engine speed sensing power steering, or fluid type LSD, or tail lights stolen from a mid eighties Ford T-bird found on the series 5 cars.
Second choice would be a 87. That extra HP that the series 5 cars have hardly makes up for the extra weight since torque only rose a couple of lbs.
