Well, personally I would want a shorter 5th because 5th gear is just an overdrive gear. 1st - 4th is alright, but once I shift into 5th that's it, the speed just stops climbing.

then you'd want it taller.

no dude, if you make the gear taller it give you more top speed and slower accell. And N/A's can't use 5th to its full pontential anyway.
So why the hell do you want a taller 5th projekt

Exactly what I was thinking. If I had a beefed up motor to it's fullest potential and had more than enough power to go through the gears, then maybe I would want a longer 5th gear.

Peace

I'd love to but I won't be on stock ports much longer and want the collected scavenging effect . . . and the stock cat and cat-back to keep the street port and header from setting off everyone's alarms. Say what you will about using stock stuff after the header - I will be the guinnea pig and prove that a header and street port work well without expensive parts behind it. The added noise is not worth 10-15 hp to me.

I think our own Mazdaspeed7 and Liquid Anarchy have pretty strong opinions on drue duals . . . you might try them.

So you are planning to run a header with the stock main cat and aftermarket catback? How long is the piece that needs to be fabricated/welded on to make the header reach the main cat perfectly?

Thanks

My plan is to use an RB collected header to the stock main cat, using the stock cat back. The RB presilencer is within an inch or two's length of the stock main cat and it fit fine between the header and cat back. So if using the main cat directly bolted to the RB header causes my exhaust tips to be an inch too far forward or back at the rear bumper, I won't care as long as the muffler canisters still fit.

my hat will be off to you and my jaw will drop if you ever get an NA to the top of 5th gear. with the stock 4.10 rear, thats about 200mph (depending on tire size). considering the 7 has a drag coeficient of 0.31 youd probobly need at least 350 rwhp to come close.

it would be awsome but i dont think it can be done without turbos or a three rotor bridge port.

Sometime you should actually hear a nicely done true duel exhaust. Its slightly louder than my RB header into a 3" cat, to a RB Y pipe, then RB rear mufflers. Infact, my wife (who realy hates free flowing exhausts on rotarys.) says its realy quite. Ask anyone in rpnw if my cars loud. Seriously. To be honest, I'm not trying to sell an exhaust, but just to educate you.

Also, you should talk to Rob about exhausts, and find out what he runs on his own peripheral port engines to street ported engines. And his thoughts on collected systems. You'll be very suprised. CJ

I'll be at the next RPNW meeting if you would like to hear my setup. Its the first Wensday of the month.

the reason i said taller is cause i thought you wanted a better cruising gear, like some people (me) like. if you've maxed out 4th and you think you should be going faster, you should be arrested. now, if i could cruise in 5th at 2500 at 75mph i'd be a happy customer.
