best turbo back exhaust? ($$ not an option)

So my original plan for my exhaust (stock turbo) was to get the racing beat 80mm downpipe, then some stainless u bends and straight pipe along with a couple stainless borla mufflers and cut'n'paste it into something, then have a professional welder weld it up. After i calculated how much that would cost, i figured i could just get the full RB high-performance 3" for about the same or a little more. But then i read the thread aobut the motoria turbo back and someone posted a huge rant about how the RB exhaust has steel flanges (true), isnt mandrel bent (true), and is thinner on the downpipe than the rest of the exhaust (possibly true), and its like, super heavy. SO i guess my question is, is the racing beat still the best option or should i try to build some custom single exit exhaust? And are all steel flanges, non-mandrel bends, and thick stainless negatives?

best thing about the racing beat system is the design of the mufflers IMO. Just build something custom out of two of them.

How loud do you want it to be? That is the true deciding factor if you don't care about cost.

Corksport is a great exhaust for a TII!

Light and well built. It'll do the job.

If money were no object and you want it QUIET, you can't beat the Racing Beat full exhaust, period.

rb 3" downpipe and apex gt-spec catback. that combo sounds the best, looks the best and makes good power, IMO

well i really shouldnt be talking for fear of my foot but, i had a GT-spec on my 240 and with its large pipe diameter it made a nice low tone, however, i never had one on a rx-7 so it might not be as good, i also had a 3 in. dp on it, however i was looking at the corksport exhaust and from what i read thats probably what ill get...after my car runs. anyway, it also depends on the hp you want as an end result. the gt spec (on the 240 anyway) was like 3.75 inch, thats pretty big if your not wanting big #'s however if my memory serves it was tapered out so it was mainly for sound. but as i was saying i give a vote for the corksport exhaust

(p.s sorry for the rambling)

Keep in mind that any of the A'PEXi N1 series exhaust neck down to the stock 65mm flange "up front"...even the GT-series.

The RB stuff is 3" (or 76mm) straight through.

the RB stuff actually splits into two 2.5's at the Y.

And anyone who has taken Fluid Dynamics 101 knows that two 2.5" pipes flow just as well as a single 3" one.

Talking

Ours is 80mm turbo-back.

There's a sound clip of the awesome fury that is my Turbo II with the CS exhaust.

When the car still had a motor in it...

I definitely want it as quiet and deep as possible, but i'd like it to sound aggressive/loud at higher RPM. Cops around here pull over loud cars all day, especially if a teenager is driving it. For some reason though, N/A 3-rotors and V8's just go about their ridiculously loud business around here with no hassles whatsoever /jealous.

Anyway. I guess the only thing concerning me is mild steel flanges as opposed to stainless(do they warp? does it matter?) and the fact that it weighs a lot. Is it more than stock and is it so heavy that i should consider other options?

thanks for all the replies so far!

Who on god's earth told you RB 80MM turbo back weighs more than stock? They should be shot in the ***** and left to bleed to death.

RB is what you want. The Flanges are made well and I don't think you could bend them unless you were trying to bend them. I've seen Apex'I flanges and they are mild steel(N1) and thinner than RB. So if you think something from them is going to be better you'd have to check the GT spec(which isn't the best for piping as it narrows...).

RB is 80mm(3.15") all the way to the Y pipe, from which is goes to the 2.xx" pipes for the mufflers. Unless you're going for over 400+ WHP you shouldn't have any problems with it.

The tone is awesome, a nice mid-low sound untill you hit it then its just sex.

one of the t2's I have right now has a RB dual on it and I can't even tell that I am driving a rx7. Sounds like a stock exhaust system to me.

Best thing you could do is build your own out of SS straits and bends using a ss magna flow where your cat used to be and another at the end like a conventional setup. I am building my complete turbo 4 inch back system now and this is what I have.

My exhaust setup before was a 3 inch turbo back setup with a thunder fab dp/mp combo connected to a corksport exhaust. This was very loud so I used a 3 inch borla xr-1 and welded it in where the stock cat used to be and it changed the sound of the car completely. It went from a high pitched jap car to sounding like a deep rumble of something italian (ferrari - lambo) which was a great improvement.

If cost is not a option I would build my own using all SS and magnaflows no question

Actually, the flow rates are very similar if you do the nitty gritty math...

It doesn't matter.
The only big potential problem is the welds from mild steel to SS.
If it's welded properly, there is nothing to worry about.
I would prefer mild steel over SS, because...
1) Mild steel handles "deflection" better; once SS gets tweaked, it tends to stay that way.
2) Thicker gauge mild steel keeps the exhaust noise down; SS exhaust stuff typically is thinner gauge (thus lighter), but the thinner SS pipes tend to "ring".
3) Mild steel is just downright cheaper; unless you're going for a show exhaust or want your exhaust to last over 10 years, then go SS - **** under the car most people don't see or look at.
