Best spot for Aftermarket Temperature Guage

I know this has been covered before, but i am collecting guages and im going to have a Temp, Oil temp, oil press in a triple pod in the idiot light area, i was wondering the best spot for the oil temp and water temp guages, my friend drew (ddub) suggested a pretapped hold on the front housing right undernieth one of the studs that the ACor PS mounts on, its just a hex bolt, you pop it out and use the biggest adapter out of the set you get and it looks to be the best spot for it and you dont have to tap into anything which is also a plus

i just want to get some opinions on this spot, plus's and minuses, and some suggestions for the Oil temp guage, should i tee in on one of the oil lines? or do something else?

thanks!

that sounds like a good spot to get accurate readings of water temp.

For the oil temp/pressure I would get a pedestal from Mazdatrix...racing beat might have one as well....that screws on where the oil filter does and then has two tapped holes for attaching plumbing or sending units. That would be the cleanest way and also easier then making a high pressure T on the oil cooler lines.....

as well the temp reading from the lines may be different then what you would have at the filter...

im no TOO concerned with the Oil temp but i do want oil press accuracy. thank you for the pedistal suggestion though, thats actually what i was looking for, something that meant i didnt have to spend alot of time and testing Teeing off a HP line. thanks again

i dont have any in my rx7 yet, but when i had the mustang, i sat in the driver seat and placed the gauge in different locations just to get an idea of where it would be most convient.

some common spots are: pillar mount, either side of the cluster housing, or above/under a aftermarket deck (or in that slot if you have no deck)

Do not use that location for a temp sensor! Read my post here:

I used 1/4" pipe tap........most gauges come with a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter for sending unit.

Don't use thread adaptors for temp senders. They space the sender back out of the water flow, which slows their response. You want as much of the sensor exposed to water flow as possible.

i used a thread adapter to fit my autometer guage to the aux fan hole on the waterpump housing. Without the thread adapter to space the sender back a bit, the sender wouldn't fit, it was too long.

As long as most of the sensor is exposed to coolant flow it'll be okay. If it was too long without the adaptor then it's probably fine.

Are you talking about ontop of the filler neck or in the back?

if you drill the adapter out from the back side, it esposes more of the sending unit.

I guess reading the post and actually finding out what it was about is too hard for you.
