Best Remanufacturer for Rotary Engines ? Help !!!
Ok guys and gals, This is my first post here but I have a quick question. This is my second RX-7, I had an 85 gslse with the 13b before and now the bug bit me again and i dove into this 88 vert RX7 that also has the 13b. I purchased the car with a blown engine, well not really blown but dragging one rotor. The car will start and run but it definitely lost an apex or two and/or a side seal in the back rotor. I bought the car with the intention of putting a new or used engine in it. These motors are a hard find here where I live and I dont want to chance buying a used one that I have to ship and if something is wrong ship back. I want to know where is a good place to buy a remanufactured engine, I have been eying Atkins Rotary or Mazda Recyclers. Please anyone that has went this route and has actually dealt with any retailer that sells these engines let me know their experience with any of these, or if you have some retailers that I do not know about Please post them and what your experience that you had with them. I dont want to get an engine and it die after 20-30k because of poor craftsmanship and I dont want to get one thats messed before I even install it. If you are going to tell me to rebuild the one I already have, Please don't. I just do not have the time right now to do it and I need the car asap. Thanks in advance.

the closest to you is kevin...and a reman is a rebuilt(reman has new housings and sometimes new rotors-or close to that)...so just send yours to him..he is just about next door to you...wish he was my neighboor
Yes, but time is of the essence. I did see his page at rotaryressurection.com and he im sure would probably do a better job than any reman would, but I do not have the time for him to do it or I would. He is about 4 1/2 hours from me so he's not exactly my neighbor
hehe
hehe
I think the best option in your situation would be to gain a little patience or find some way to not have to rely on this car for a little while and get the engine fixed proper.
to most of us 4.5 hours to kevin lander's shop is not that long of a drive.
a longer wait that results in a well built, reliable engine that willl probably last 120k+ is worth it imo then to rush and end up with a 20k liability.
i would talk to him, who knows, maybe he has a finished engine around and could swap you in a weekend.

I would go ahead and give Kevin a call. Sometimes his work load isn't huge and he could get your job done as quick as it would take to get an engine shipped to you. Worth a shot...

hehewhereabouts in KY do you live? if its 4.5 hours away from kevin it sounds like you live in louisville like us
i'm actually going down to kevins this coming weekend to pick up my car. he hooked me up good, you should check him out.
i live like 10 hours away by plane..that would be about 4000 miles...at least
..so if he was 4.5 hours...he would be my neighbor
anyway...there is no way a reman woudl get to you any faster than a rebuild..it still takes a few weeks...plus they have a core charge in some cases

Thats exactly what I meant Aesop, I may give Kevin a call tomorrow and see what he can do. but yay i can get a motor shipped here by this next coming weekend so i can swap it in, if i order it tomorrow. Would really like to have someone like him rebuild mine but this car is a everyday-take me to work car, so I kind of need it put in and driveable in a hurry.
You're probably not going to get an engine out of Kevin, but he'd be more then happy to do the rebuild. Kevin does awesome work, but if you're in a hurry you probably should try Mazdatrix or Atkins, both of them are EXCELLENT, but cost more then kevin.
From the last time I was there (about 2 weeks) Kevin doesn't have any engines. He just rebuilds them. But like I said, he's pretty quick about it depending on his work load.
