bellhousing/input shaft measurement needed plz

hey guysssss. Can someone with an s4-s5 tranny laying around measure the distance between the end of the bellhousing and the end of the input shaft? basically I need to know how far recessed the input shaft is into the bellhousing. If the input shaft sticks out, I need to know by how far.

I think TII and NA transmissions are the same in this respect, not for sure though.

I need this measurement because I'm swapping a 13b into a miata and I'm trying to use a miata tailshaft->miata gearbox->13b bellhousing. I don't know if I'll have to lengthen or shorten the 13b bellhousing until the motor has the clutch installed, so I just want to make sure it adds up on paper. thanks.

you will have to modify(shorten the input shaft)
see the following

thanks for the info, but I'm well aware of that. That unfortunately is not directly applicable, because it is about miata gears in an rx7 gearbox.

Since I obviously have to custom make engine mounts, my strategy was to make a spacer between the gearbox and bellhousing and just place the engine roughly 3/8" forward to accomodate for the longer input shaft. This would be easier in the long run because I wouldn't have to disassemble my transmission if I broke it and needed to swap it. However, I don't know if the spacer is necessary, because the miata gearbox is shaped differently than an rx7 one, and for all I know could be 3/8" longer than an rx7 one.

So, I want to see how far off I am, if I have the input shaft/bell housing rx7 measurement, I can compare it to what kind of clearance I get when I bolt an rx7 bellhousing straight to a miata gearbox. (I unfortunately only have a miata transmission and an rx7 bellhousing at my disposal)

edit: My rough measurements with a tape measure indicate that the rx7 bellhousing is indeed roughly 3/8" shorter than a miata bellhousing, but that is irrelevant. What's important is where the input shaft sits relative to the edge of the bellhousing.
