beep when i lock my doors?

I noticed recently that whenever I lock my doors, there's a small beep sound. I also noticed (while trying to fix my jammed lock) that there's a bunch of electrical wires attached to my door handle. Are those for a security system or maybe a weird power lock mechanism (neither of which work if they exist)?

Also, I cant seem to figure out how to 1) detach those electrical wires and 2) detach the linkages to my handle. I've searched the forums, and the best answer I've found is that you pop off the plastic from the linkages. I tried doing that but to no avail. Any other tips?

the plastic clips that hold the metal rods rotate out of the way... on GXL's there should be a light around the door lock that lights up when the handle is lifter for assistance in the dark... there is also a factcory security system in some models

Yeah, they're got it right. My GXL used to do the same thing, until the security system decided to start screwing up

A lot of alarm system problems come from bad door/hood/hatch/door lock switches. One switch on the door lever mechanism is for the light to assist finding the key hole in the dark. The other switch gets closed when you use the key and tells the alarm to deactivate.

Googled "door lock rod connector", clicked images, and found this, similar to our cars:

My alarm works still...even when the door doesn't open, and the alarm still goes off. HOW WONDERFUL!
