Well I want to make sure what happens if the negative cable gets hooked up on the positive port of the car battery .. why i ask because on the rx7 the short cable tht is currently hooked up to the positive end has black sleve cover on it usually meaning its the negative cable.. just like you see the ones with the red sleve cover on the positive wires. i just want to know will the car still run what kind of problems will i notice.. or will the car just not start

the shorter cable is the positive terminal. the stock negative is a black with a yellow stripe on it, and only the positive has a rubber cover, which is black

 

If the battery gets connected backwards, there will be big sparks and a lot of smoke. It will likely fry many of the electronic devices in the car.
