battery being charged at 12

I just get a new battery and the old one was being charged at 12 every now and then it would charge at 14 but why only 12?

Voltage regulator? I just had the alternator rebuilt like 4 months ago.

alt or connections or belt to the alt is bad... batteries don't charge at under 12.6 volts, anything under 12.6 volts means the battery is being discharged.

what should you get at idle with under drive crank pully? I'm getting like 12.36 volts. and i don't think this will be enough at night with everything on. I don't even have a sound system.

You should be gettin more. I will try putting some Grease on the batt terminals. Because sometimes it does charge at a good level.... 14.4 or so....

Again... The battery all by itself will put out 12.6 volts, so if you only have 12.3 volts the battery is being drained and the alt is not working at all.

At idle you should have 13.6 just to barely charge the battery, and ideally you should have 14.4 when ever the car is running.

If the belt were a little loose. Would this do it?

again, if you are only getting 12.3 volts when the engine is at idle, you are not charging... you are discharging the battery.

So no, if you are only getting 12.3 volts you are not getting a solid charge... you are not getting any charge.
