Cool Bastardized my S4 tails..PICS!

I had been meaning to do this for a while, I did it to my 87 Base model and liked it.. I am hunting a nice set of S5's but in the mean time these will do.

Process:

Light sand the edges with 800 grit
Wipe the whole thing down with NAPTHA
Shoot 4 thin layers of "model tint" spray
Let dry.
Shoot 2 layers of industrial clear.
let dry.

Here are the pics, the reflector still works as you can see in the picture, it is the red spot on the driver's side light...

I bought some LED lights that are meant for a trailer that I am going to install and see how they look, The drivers light is cracked so I thought that it would be cool to try some stuff out on them..

it looks really dark. maybe one coat would have done it or maybe it's just the angle.

i'm going to do radius my lense edges with blackout tape whenever i get a chance. i think it would look hot and i've got a spare set anyways. i edited an ebay pic to look like my idea.

They are good and bright, work well in the day too. I'll go snap some.

Bought the tint at a hobby store for $5.00

I've only used VHT Niteshade for tinting, but I assume Testors makes a black tint... There clear red stuff is REALLY nice quality.

I always kinda liked these, for s4's Still a step below s5's though, IMO. Some guy on the forum was selling them a few years back, but it didnt last long for some reason and I've never seen any of them since.

^ yeah those are sweet. I always wanted to do that to my tails (and IMO S4>S5, especially when they look like that!) I just would have kept the amber part amber. I thought that the guy who did that made a writeup about it... yes no?

Also, those tails painted the rest of the car really helps out the looks.

Yeah these are really clean looking.. from what I remember he made one set, never sold any additional ones but he was selling the clear 3rd brake light for a while. I would like a writeup on these.. If anyone finds a link that would be sweet..

Ah, yes. What i meant o say is the S4 tails with the black trim in between and around the lenses painted the same color as the rest of the car really helps the looks out. Modernizes it times eleventybillion. IMO of course. So those transparent tails + painted trim i think would look better than any S5 thunderchicken tails.
