bastard TII or project TII?
1. have rotary resurrection install a S5 13BT engine and TurboII drivetrain in my 91 GXL
-this would save me many many hours of work and suffering and sorrows of "**** my ***, why doesnt this **** work yet" but also cost be a few hundred dollars more.
2. buy a TurboII that has a blown engine and install a rebuilt engine myself (we have all required tools and just about everything needed)
-we all know its a fairly large task to install a longblock even when you have all the tools for the job. also, i would probably *have* to buy a series4 TurboII for this project because we all know S5 T2's (especially ones with blown engines) are few and far between.
i would also have my nice 91 GXL as my daily driver in this case.
well in about 4-5 weeks i'll be starting my go-fast-again adventure (last one ended in flames, literally, as a few of you may know) and i have pretty much narrowed my options down to one of the two choices listed above. please voice your thoughts on either/both of the two options i will be facing in a month or so.

buy a TII... this way you're not screwed against a wall if something breaks on that car like you were when your TII went up in flames not having a ride any where.. Also allows you to have the gas guzzl'n fast car parked and ran during the weekends.

If you can.. having two cars would be better. For the fact you have a back up car at all times. If something were to break you're not scrambling to come up with money to fix it because you need your daily driver up and going.
the na should get better gas mileage to so that helps for the diddl'n around.
downside is.. you have two vehicles to keep track of.. two vehicles to do maintance on.. and two vehicles to pay insurance on.

If you dont mind me jumpin' in for some advice..I'm having the same problem, except a bit different. I currently have an '86 GXL, I want a TII powerplant badly. It would be easier to just find a TII with a blown motor, nice body, and rebuild it. But my current GXL is beautiful.....
Flawless professional paint, no body damage, nice leather interior, perfect dash. Selling my car would mean I'd give up my baby, I've put so many man hours into her (motor blew the 2nd week I had her and I put another in). If I keep it, I'm going to need to do the TII motor, trans, driveline, and rear end to have it power stable. Help?

i think we should both just get a TII to have as our "badass" car and have our nice NA's as our "nice" cars.

Find a FC shell, do a V8 swap and be done with it. Then you can have your reliability, reasonable gas mileage, and brute acceleration / speed. Keep the S5 for sentimental reasons.

I say do the swap, I'm going to attempt a swap this summer, weather is be a cosmo or a 13bt, I'm going to try. Mine main reason is I LOVE boost. Just the way it feels is more than enough to explaine, I would just go buy a third gen, but I couldn't keep it for more than the summer because insurrance will rape me, that it why if I have an N/A with a nice engine, I can have my cheap insurrance with a bad *** car. Although, if you can afford it, save up a few months and buy a TII. I have a N/A and a T2, the T2 is wrecked, I wish it was running because it is so much nicer just to have both, but I can't afford both, this is just my opinion and gripes.

um, i believe so, i have a couple he took of the engine out, engine bay empty, and a couple my friend took w/ the engine in. I can get more of the engine bay now if you'd like
I have to give another shoutout to kevin for props though. If there is ANY PROBLEM at all taht comes up in the swap, he seriously will do his BEST EFFORT to make it right for you, and he usually has the parts to help you out.
He got my emissionsless, 4 vac line, no BAC jspec 90psi engine to idle better than my NA did.
PM me w/ an email and i can see if i can send you a couple pix.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Wow, thanks for the props guys. I try to be fair with everybody, and it's nice to have that gesture returned.
IN Jacob bitchmill's case, I'd recommend he keep the NA just as it is, and get another s4 t2 as well. Or, get an s4 NA and make it a t2, which is about as easy and costs about the same.
In Marcus' case, Id recommend a t2 swap. s4 t2 stuff isnt nearly so hard to find, and this is an easy swap.
In fact, right now, I have a complete t2 swap available. Drivetrain, engine (needs rebuild, bad coolant seals, will be done before being sold obviously), hood, electronics, right down to the fuel pump and airflow meter. Rebuilt and streetported Ill be selling the conversion for $2700, or $2500 no hood (the hood is hard to ship, and isnt perfect anyway). NOTE that this would ONLY fit 86-88 cars, as the electronic stuff wont work with an s5 (though the drivetrain would).

I saw that stuff for sale in the FS section...I need a loan!! Everything I need is right there! Maybe you'll have another setup like that for sale next summer sometime...in reality though, I don't have the $$ right now. Someone hop on that!!!
