The first step would be to check and clean ALL of the grounds and rule that out as a potential culprit. I would also check the coilpacks to make sure they are still firing as they should. Sometimes they work fine until they warm up and then intermittently miss. you could check it using a timing light

I did some poking around the Bay today. Checked coil packs. They seem to be fine. Was working on the grounds too.. It's so strange..i drove it around today for 2 hours and not a blip. Then I'm almost home and it starts again. Pull it in my garage and when I start it up it almost goes into that mode right away. So everything is at operating temps way before the happens. My gut tells me it's a sensor but everything seems to be checking out.. Gotta love rotary :/

its just an old car thing, intermittent problems are by far the hardest to resolve. I had a problem with my car randomly shutting off while driving and it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump ground but the random nature made it very hard to trace until it became consistent.

this may be a stupid question, but have you pulled the ECU codes after you encounter this issue? The ECU should store the code unless you reset it by disconnecting the battery. At very least it might give you some direction in where to look

so i rigged up some LEDs to check for codes. plug it in, and both lights illuminate for a few secs then go off (normal)

no flashing lights after that untill i turn it back on.. still nothing untill i blip the throttle.
then i get code 15, intake air temp sensor.

if i turn the car off with key still in ACC. no lights come on.
Also..where is the AIT sensor located? havent been able to find it.

i was not able to replicate the exact problem i was having while hooked up to my "scanner" due to the inconsistency, so im going to try and wait for it to do it again and see what code it throws. (sorry for long post)

It is located on the side of the dynamic chamber on the driver's side. It has two wires, one Black and one Green.

ON Still having issues!!!!!!.......:(

hello everyone, so ive been trying everything, and keep thinking ive fixed it. only to have this issue happen again (see video)

i have checked vacuum hoses, new tps, new coil pack, new MAF.

latest thing i tried was when it was idling like crap, not as bad as in video but same kind of lopey idle, i unplugged my BAC.. and voila, idle smoothed out. so i thought id take it for a drive. worked great for 20 mins. and then low and behold. it did it again.

the problem is so intermittent, doesnt matter on outside weather conditions, heat, nothing. i can be on the throttle or at idle

i will take another video and post it to show what it sounds like when i hit the gas,
hopefully i can get this fixed because my best friend wanted to use it for his wedding in two months. thanks again everyone!!!

That plug you keep pulling off is for the bac. They pretty easy to clean up n pretty cheap to get a replacement. I cleaned mine and it seemed to help.

if you pull off the bac plug, and it fixes the idle problem, i would assume its something related to the bac.4

Did you try driving around with the bac unplugged?

My plug to the bac could use changing. Theres a metal clip that locks in on. Mine holds it but its not tight like it should be. Doesnt look like u got one at all. Maybe its coming loose. Im pretty sure I read of people changing the connector as well as cleaning up the contacts which isnt to difficult. Something i plan on doing after I fix other problems.

Yes I did.. And although it does seem to smoothen out the idle as the video shows. It will still go into that mode. Where it kinda lopes even while driving.. Almost seems like a fuel cut/misfire. Also seems like a big hesitation and runs rreeaallyy rich when that happens..

So maybe the BAC does have something to do with the idle. But this problem will replicate itself even while driving. It's so frustrating!!!
