Bad TOB or synchro?

I originally thought that my synchro had gone bad, because I get a terrible grinding if I shift from 1st to 2nd a high RPM.

I started seaching the forum on "transmission rebuild" and came a across another possibility.

Someone mentioned that the throw out brearing might be bad, in a similar situation.

I'm thinking that may be the problem. I've had the car grind the gears a couple times when shifting into reverse, and I was sure I had the clutch all the way to the floor.

The understanding I'm getting is that a bad TOB will cause the clutch to not release as quicly as it should, causing grinding. Is this correct?

How do I tell if my problem is with the TOB or my transmission?

if its only one gear its prolly the tranny, the throwout/pilot will affect all the gears

I suggest you check your clutch hydraulic also. A leaking hose or slave cylinder may not release the clutch fully even your pedal is to the floor. Not to mention if you got air in the hydraulic.

Good idea. I've been meaning to change the fluid anyways, I'll bleed the system and then check again.
