Need help/advice Just bought a 87 TII!!!

Well I had just bought a 87 TII last week, YIPEEE!! and I need a little advice/thoughts on what I am planning on doing with the car. Firstly, let me fill you in on what the car has. Its has 72K orginal miles (chassis/engine) mostly stock except for a RB turbo back exhaust, HKS FCD, and a Blitz BOV. I had compression tested it before I bought it and it had about 85 psi all around F/R, I am not sure if the kid held accelerator while cranking, an ideas on try to raise the compression? I does not seem like it is that hard to start, atleast compared to my friends N/A, so thats a plus.

Now I do not think having the RB turbo back is a good idea with no fuel mods or a boost controller. And I do not what to push it to hard before I get some extra fuel to the engine. Here are some Fuel mods that I have been thinking of:

ND 720cc injectors (secondary only)
Wlabro 255lph (rewired)
HKS AFR or Apexi SAFC II -- What would you recomend?

Would those be sufficent enough? I am not looking for major horsepower, more just for reliablity, Anyone know how much SAFE power can be made with 550cc prim and 720cc sec with a walbro? And how important is a fuel pressure regulator? And what does it do, allow for the extra fuel or cut it back?

As for a Boost Controller do you have any recomendations? I am looking for something not to complicated, but one that will have good flexibilty. To go with the added electronics, I am going to swap in the FD alternator, anyone know a good place to buy one?

Now for a few problems I have been having, after it warms up it idles any where from 1k-1500 rpms, I had to tighten the alternator belt and now it sometimes (only twice in 2 hours of driving) idles at 800 rpms. I had tried to adjust the BAC valve but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Also when the tranny is in neutral (or maybe even in gear, can't tell because of exhaust/engine noises) when the clutch is out I hear a whinning noise, but then when I press in the clutch it stops. It sounds sort of like a starter motor, when you are testing it. Could that be the input shaft?
Where should the temperature needle be when the engine is warm? Mine sits right above the cold line and sometimes goes up maybe a 1/8th of the way, but no more. Lastly, My heat does not work, I found that all the linkage on the drivers side was all loose, and I have it jerry-riged up for now.

Well thats is for now! SORRY for the long read! I would really appreciate any help you guys may have! Thanks!

take it in for a basic tune up. change all fluids yadie yadie yada, also you wouldnt need that big of injectors on stock turbo and i would recomend getting a boost controler first and how much boost are you going to be running, you can only run so much on the stock IC , there are endless things you can do.

I have been doing some research and I had come across the idea of maybe using a Greddy E-manage. Any one ever use this? And any success?

How important is a FPR when upgrading to a Walbro? I ahve also thought of using a FD fuel pump, how mush of an improvement is that over the stock TII?

Lastly how much fuel mileage will I be sacraficing when I upgrade to a walbro or FD FP? And is there anyway to miniumize that?

Well Congrats to that then!

Back to the main topuc of discussion here, I found out that there might be problems with Walbros, that they only last about a year.. Can anyone confirm this?

Walbros seem to be pretty much the pump of choice for most people. Mine is doing fine. I thought it went bad a while back due to shitty wiring to the fuel cut switch from the previous owner but it wasn't the case.

As long as your fuel system is working properly, those 550s should be fine for just a catback system.

What you should really invest in is a good boost gauge. That and a fuel pump should be good for a stock turbo.

Ryde or Die, how long have you had your walbro?

Now I have been doing more research and found out that a SAFC has trouble tunning 2 different sized injectors. Would I be alright with the stockers? Like I said earlier I am really only looking for maybe 250-70 HP.

As for the catback, the midpipe is only temporary need to put a cat on for inspection. The only other mod that I can think of off the top of my head is a intake. (plus boost/fuel controller).

The s-afc will be fine with stock injectors or 550/720s. Something like that. Where it would have trouble is with something like 550/1300, 550/1600, 720/1600. The transition is too great when the secondaries kick in. I currently and putting 2 more 720s in my primary spots and have an s-afc. I've had my walbro almost 2 years now.
