Bad Thermosensor

Would a bad Thermosensor cause for a hard start up when the car is cold? I have to turn the ignition key twice to start the car, once and it picks p the spark for about 4 seconds and it dies and then i start it again and it isgood for the warm up. does anyone have any suggestions? Oh yea I have an 89 N/a GTU.

Yes, replace it..... well actually the sensors themselves are typically pretty solid, it's the connectors that usually go bad. It's a simple fix, maybe 3 bucks from an auto parts store for your typical two pin sensor connector. That should fix your hard starts. But if your car is an s5, and the ECU isn't fried then you should be getting a CEL

when you say you have to turn the key twice, do you get a click, and then nothing the first time? Or do you turn it over for several seconds, it doesn't fire, and then you turn it over again and it starts up? One indicates a starter on the way out, bad clutch switch, or low voltage to the starter. The other indicates a likely thermosensor problem or bad timing or something.

And it is my understanding that you will only get a CEL if the sensor is completely screwed/nonfunctional. The problem is that over time the sensors build up resistance. On my Power FC display my old sensor read about 40 degrees C too cold (which means extra fuel on cold start), but it still worked.
