Question Bad oil seals or what?

Im tracking all the issues that my 7 has. i got the bushings handled now for the next most concerning thing on my list. when i start the car, it blows white smoke. no mater what the temp is out side. i know this is normal at start up. it gets vary thick while its warming up and then goes away some what. it still comes out of the exhaust and looks like when a car starts up in the morning but maybe 1/5 the amount, its like noticeable if your looking. i drove this car 100 miles with no incident. im wondering if maybe there is synthetic oil in the motor. i don't drive this car much i just bought it and want to change all the fluids and such. im just wondering because i know a lot about the car but i read a lot on the bad oil seals and don't exactly know if what my car is doing is still in that yeah your ok its normal or if its in that its on its way out stage. additional info, one time while i was accelerating down the road i wasn't hitting more the 4-5 grand and i noticed a white plume of smoke way back behind me. also the cloud smells like gas sorta a sweet smell. not a yuky oil burning smell as i would imagine i might smell if it was bad seals. and as i just got this car i have yet to change the spark plugs which are black and the wires which are new looking but need to be replaced. the car has tones of power. starts up fine every time like i don't even have to turn the key all the way and its started. no flooding. dose not hesitate to drive down the road. dose not exhibit any indication that the motor is bad. also unrelated to the seal question. my clutch seems good no slipping at all, but while im parked when i let the clutch out in neutral it makes a different more winy noise. it isn't loud just a different pitch then when the peddle is to the floor. so maybe some one recognizes what im talking about. and can shed some light.

if it is a sweet smell then it is your coolent seals coolent smells sweet when burnt. this means that your coolant seals are going bad and are leaking. sry to break it to u but u have a full rebuild in your future. typically it does it after sitting for the night becasue then the coolant has time to pool up in one or both of the rotor chambers.

u might be able to get away with driving it for some time if u want but eventually with no warning they will go and the motor will overheat

Question thank you

yeah that really sucks, but i think i will be ok with that out come. i actually noticed a small puddle of coolant under the car tonight. im wondering if that means that it will go sooner then later or dose that change things?

u saw the coolent after it was boiling and overheating? that would be normal because when the coolant overflow botttle fills.it starts venting the rest underneith the car.

but if u saw it before u noticed any of this then that would be very bad and would be a good sign that it is overheating aswell.

if its a small amount leaking into the motor its not good but u can get away with it for awhile but if its leaking out of the block then that would tell me its overheating also and all kinds of things could be wrong now

Question Uggg

I just noticed the leak tonight its pooling on the cross member to the steering assembly right under the motor. dose not appear to over heat nor does it get vary hot according to the gauge. it leeks vary little at all but still cant shake the symptoms. i guess i have head of using that CRC Copper Block Weld and it making a difference early on. the next thing i guess is if there are no other possible options should i have the motor rebuilt? should i attempt to do it myself? should i send away for a pre built? you guys would know more about whats Kosher in the rx7 world. i haven't owned one in 3 years.

altimatly every problem u say u have leads to a rebuild. if u do it now u have a better chance of having reusable parts if u wait then its likly to cost more, but not always.

depends can u follow directions to the T?its not hard to do it yourself u just have to pay attention to little details that could possibly fubar the whole motor if u dont.

u could rebuild it yourself in acouple of days for about 800$ if the housings and rotors are reusable.how many miles on the car? if over somting like 200k then housings might have to be bought wich used in good condition run about another 200$-300$

or u can have it sent away to rebuild. the cheapest shop u are gonna find charges u 500$ for labor typically they can get the seals cheaper becasue they buy volume but when it comes to parts like housings and rotors that need replaced in my opinion they charge to much+u have to pay shipping to and from if u cant find one local which would run u another 1k$

if u did it yourself u are looking at somthing like 1k$ to rebuild it cheaper if u dont need housings.typically everything else is reusable.it really not hard just alot of cleaning and cleaning then assembly is mostly like building legos

Thumbs up Thank God

Yeah i thank you for all the info you have provided. i have a lot to think about and a few test to run. i will sleep well knowing that although this may be really bad.. its parked in one place and this all happened before a major road trip that would have possibly stranded me. also i got this car for 900 so to rebuild the motor or get a new one sounds reasonable to me. not what i was hoping for but i think i could take good care of it once it receives a new beginning. as for miles.... i have no ******* clue probably a lot. it has after market gages so there is no way to know other then dmv records. either way the car skoots better then the last one i had so its really a shame. and saddens me greatly but it is an 88gxl and these cars are old. what can i expect right? one thing is for sure this car was posed to be a summer fun car so at least i don't depend on it as a daily driver. IT COULD BE WORSE AND I KNOW IT. anyway ill look in to possibly rebuilding it myself. looks like i need some special tools and a lot of instructions. but i know the forum will back me up if thats what i chose to do.

Update

OH MY GOD. guys i swear i love these cars. mine tells me what it wants and practically drives itself. anyway i have had a lot of issues come up with my car and so far each one looked like it was going to cost an arm and a leg. but each and ever time there always seems to be a simple or lucky solution. this weekend after realizing how much i have driven the car. i finally decided to try this o ring fix. besides i make less then 10,000 a year and i owe the state 8 grand. no way i can pay for a major fix right now. and so far the car is hardly making a fuss and isn't loosing coolant and is barely smoking at start up but i of course haven't completed the surgery just nearing the completion. btw i call it heart surgery when talking about it. so i drove it today and i noticed that it seems to drive smoother now and have a more steady band of power dose anyone have a theory why this my be? i didn't think the car would run that bad with just coolant leaking in but i'm no expert so maybe it makes a huge difference.

i would like to make a quick statement on my behalf. to those of you regular rotary heads that know more about this than i. I'm aware that any remedy but doing it by the book is not recommended. I'm also aware that by cutting corners that my actions could lead to further damage to my car. for you guys i have this to say. please i do my best. i read my manual. and I'm learning. i don't have the tools or a place to work on my car and i don't have the money to fix my car although i would rather do all the work myself anyhow. all i can say is that i pay attention to details and i have a good enough knowledge about cars and sevens to know what absolutely not to do. now i say this because there are some local guy's who i was meeting up with and we talked about this sort of thing and these guys really treated me like **** because i wouldn't take my car to a shop and pay them a thousand to wave a wand and make my car better. for the rest of you guys on this forum i thank you vary much id like to think that i could do this all on my own but you guys have been so respectful to me and my questions. you have helped me weigh my options and find solutions i just want you all to know how much this means that i have some please to go and get real answers or find some form of help on these cars! thanks.
