bad mazda dealership experience.

Last Wednesday, I went to a Mazda dealership here in Austin and I got a compression test done and an oil change. Compression test said that I'm losing compression in the front rotor (6.x). I drove home kind of bummed and I let the car sit untill today. Today, I worked on it a little bit. I drove it around and when I came back, I saw a puddle where my car was parked. It's right under the engine compartment. I smelled it and it appears to be oil. I parked it in a different spot and waited 20 minutes. There is now oil pooling under my car. Not a whole lot, but enough. There's oil on the block near the oil filter (but it looks a bit old) and some lower, as in the picture.

Now, my question is this. I know that my motor is going to go soon. However, Mazda inadvertantly is helping that along. I can either get the oil leak fixed or drive it to death and hope to receive a new(to me) engine. What are the chances of me getting a new engine because of a tech's screwup?

leak spot on the ground, after 2 days.

oil around oil filter

oil leaking on the ground after 20 minutes and more oil on this plug directly below the spark plugs. what is this? injector?

Seems to me like if it's hitting that area, then maybe it's leaking around the seal of the filter? just a guess....

bad mazda dealership experience.

My experiences with the 'stealer' were not pleasant, and I have a good Mazda.
I can only imagine what it would be like with a bad Mazda.
Seriously, just tighten the damn filter. You have disqualified yourself from getting a free engine. You have posted evidence to the entire world that you are aware of the condition. If you did get them to replace the engine (unlikely) you would be committing a fraud. The risk is too high.
Don't take a chance.

It's really surprising because I saw the shop bay and "MASTER TECH" was hanging right above the bay my car was being worked on. I would imagine that a master tech wouldn't have trouble tightening a god damn oil filter.

Now I am going to go bitch and moan to the Mazda dealership so they can do it for me. Yes, I'm extremely lazy. Maybe I'll get a free oil change out of this or something.

I'd definatly bring it to their attention. Sometimes the seal on the filter doesn't sit right no matter how much you tighten it. Overtightening will just make it a B!TCH to get off next oil change.

I need a new o-ring for the oil filter, which probably would get replaced in a rebuild anyways. I'm not going to spend any more money on this money pit for a while.

You are aware that your engine could continue to run trouble free for many years, right?

And the Mazda techs could have done the compression test wrong. If they did not have the car at WOT, then the numbers will be artificially low.

First you can use a normal piston tester. To check the compression, take the leading (Lower) spark plugs and all the plug wires and screw in the compression tester. You will then need to disable the fuel injection so the injectors don't spray fuel. Pull the fuse box labeled Eng Inj. Now the only other thing you have to do I hold down on the check value on the tester so that you can watch the gaudge bounce. 85psi or lower and start looking for a new engine.

Ok Ok.....let me rephrase your question in layman terms... I need a new oil filter O-ring, should I just let all the oil run out of my engine untill it blows so I dont have to replace the 2 doller part?

does anyone see my point?

They'll tell you that you should have brought it back as soon as you saw oil leaking and there's nothing that they can do. They've got lawyers that they pay to sit around and jack off until they're needed. Do you?

replace the O-ring yourself, it's going to be a bitch to get at, but at least then you won't have to play for seven and a half hours of labor like i did for the very same thing.

Now i'm sure their "MASTER TECH." (and i use the term loosely) spent around 5 of those hours jerking off, but when i comes to Mazda you have very little say over the bill. Plus it's pointless getting involved with a big corps lawyers like yearrgh was saying.

Yeah, The techs are usually idiots.
I heard that there is a compitent Rotary tech in a Mazda dealer around here(Mesa I think). Never went there though.

Think about it. The dealership is full of ******* salesman and honda loving young people. They know pistons engines but we don't have any.

Hopefully since the RX8 is coming out they will give some training for the rotary.

I say we all go to the local dealers and offer our assitance so that way fellow Rotorites don't get screwed.
