bad idle, bad throttle response, smoking between back of engine and firewall

First off, Im new to the rx7 world. I bought an 1989 13b gtu and drove it home about 500 miles. About four hours with a few stops and then nine hours later the rest of the two hours non stop. After I got home I was taking a ninety degree corner in second gear at a normal speed and there was no acceleration after 1000 rpms. The car had no power and would not idle. The engine was shaking the whole car and would want to die. I drove home at about 25 mph for about 5 minutes. When I got home there was a light smoke comming out betweeon the firewall and the engine. Ther was no fluids dripping onto the ground. I put new plugs in it the next day. When I started it there was excessive smoke comming out of the exhaust and it would only idle at 1500 rpms after the first drop of the choke. There was a light knocking sound inside the engine. The car has about 62,000 miles on it and was sitting for about one month before I drove it home.

What is the problem?

Knocking inside engine = really bad.

Take off the exhaust manifold and see if your apex seals are intact.
