Bad Fuel Pump???

Hey Guys,

Real fast, is there I quick way to test if my fuel pump is good? I have two pumps that I've swapped in and out and nothing has changed with how my car drives. The pressure drops as the rpms go up (with both pumps). So my question is, how critical is the voltage to the pump? What's the miminum amount I should see back there with a meter? And if I'm not getting enough power, does anyone make a "hot-wire" kit for the FC's??? I just want to double check all this before I spend $100 on a new pump and end up with the same problems...
Thanks,
brandon

What year and such is the 7?

To test the pump at least for running there is a yellow connector around or under the Air Box that you can jump with a wire. This will allow you to turn the key to the ON position and the pump will run without starting the car.

Other than that you can check the voltage at the connector on the drivers side speaker tower as well to see if your even getting voltage to that point.

it's an 86 GXL... I've got it to where I can turn the key to the run position and have the pump on. It's getting12+ volts. I did some jerry rigging and timed how long it'd take to fill a gallon jug. At about 30 seconds the jug was 1/4 to 1/3 full. So I think the pump is just worn out (I'm guessing it should have done around half the gallon in 30 seconds). I'll just go ahead and get a new pump... even if it doens't fix the problem, at least I know there's a fresh pump right?
thanks for the help
