Backspacing Stock Wheels....

I have an 87 SE and was thinking of putting 1/4 inch spacers behind the stock 14 inch wheels for a more aggressive handling experience...anyone done this? What were your results?

I am buying new wheels but I am putting race tires on these for next years autocrossing season... 1/4 inch is the largest i ca go without changing classes..

I'd put longer wheel studs if you're gonna run a spacer. All the stresses will be on the studs and you'll only have a few threads on there.

Spacers are VERY DANGEROUS (and illegal at any track event). I ran them for awhile to accomidate some 255's in the rear and they fucked up my 500 dollar set of rear tires. The nuts will only go onto the studs about 1 or 2 turns which is not enough. If you are going to do this get the corksport hub extendors or at the very least get longer studs.

You would be much better off just changing the wheels to a wider wheel or a different offset, instead of spacing them out.

Volk Racing makes a "studded " non-hubcentric spacer. As in the spacer bolts to the OE studs and the wheel bolts to the studs that are pressed into the spacer. This is what I use to mount FD rims on my 2G on all 4 corners.
Barring this the only other smart way to use a spacer is to install longer studs.
