Backfiering when.......???
My 87 N/A backfires : when I let off the throttle & the Gear is in.
It's almost impposible to brake with gear in because the backfiering & car started to shake.
Is tho problem in air pump or something else..
??
LLman.

I'd check the tps setting and also look to see if the oxygen sensor is functioning. Too much gas at the wrong time. Just another guess. Got a digital meter? Edit....also how stock is your car. Parts removed? Parts added?

Could be airpump, also could be Air Control Valve. The ACV controls exhaust gases to prevent backfiring. To do a check on this, you need a Mazda repair manual, and folow the procedures in there.
