Cool Awesome finds at the wrecking yard!

I dunno if anybody cares but I found two things at the wrecking yard that I'ma put on my 88 GXL. I'll start with the easy parts that took me literaly minutes to put in. I personally don't like the sound of the horn on the RX-7, so I found a '95ish Dodge RAM 2500 van with some good horns in it and bolted them on to my car... They sound GREAT. But that's not what I was there for. I wanted some new power window switches for my car... Everybody knows how that goes with the RX-7 ones... The plastic cracks, or the corrode very badly... etc. The bottom line is that they are expensive, and hard to find here in Kansas City. Even the cheapo ones you buy from the auto parts store are $17. Way too much in my opinion. I found a Mazda MPV with power windows and the passenger side switch was $4 and it was literally plug and play. The driver's side was $12.50. The driver's side switch will need the plug cut off and the apropriate wires attached for it to work on my 7. The reason I bought these is because the quality of these window switches is supirior to the RX-7 ones. The only thing other than the plugs is going to be the color. These switches don't match my interior... But that's what spray paint is for.

So did I make a good find? Tell me what y'all think.

PS: to buy the genuine RX-7 switches "new" from Black Dragon Automotive is $190 for the drivers side and $80 for the passenger side. Ouch.

if the plastic is all intact, you can just disassemble them (gently) and with a little bit of sandpaper clean off the contacts, and they work like new. I did that with mine and they're great

Yeah, I know. The original switches I have are broken though. The little plastic pull has a crack in it and it recently broke. I couldn't find any replacements so this had to do. I'm in the process of wiring the MPV's main switch. I think it's gonna be cool. The plastic on these is way better, and the design is a little bit stronger.

If carbon build-up would have been my problem, I wouldnt've bought these switches.

I could post a pic... It looks a little better. (other than the color, which I am not concerned with.) Oh! One other thing, The MPV I was pulling this out of also had power mirrors. The switch for those looked exactly the same as the one the RX-7 comes with. I didn't pull it though, mine works fine.

I threw a pic of the horns in there. tee-hee.

I can also take a pic of the wiring if anybody wants me to. It was kinda a bitch to wire up the driver's side switch.

I beleve it's the 89ish model... It looked like this, but it was the regular 2wd version.

$300 for some air horn doesn't even compare to $7 for upgrading to the RAM horns... And if you're having problems with it not working, Break out the sand paper. Mine hasn't failed on me yet, and I sanded all the contacts of the new horns and the body. (I might need a new relay though, it has failed on me before.)
