Red face On average: What would I be looking at with a 2/2.5k FC?

Is $2000 to $2,500 enough money to start looking for a fairly decent strate body mechanicly sound RX7? Or should I keep saving?
I am kind of have my hopes up for an 88 GTU w/ few options(I want lightweight 7) but I guess beggers cant be choosers..
Sice location can be a factor I live in DFW Texas.
I check threw autotrader somewhat regularly for many different cars but most of the vehicles there always seem overpriced or have crappy pictures or none at all of the cars.(and lets not forget the countless rare rx7's that have a 4cyl...)
So on average what kind of condition would a N/A FC be that would sell for 2/2.5k?

Sorry for such a general question, I'm just looking for advice.
Thanks

You should be able to find a nice FC for that price. I picked up my '86 GXL for $2500, it had about 90k miles on it, and was absolutely mint inside and out, and had no mechanical problems. Look around, youll find something.

for 2.5k go with a DECENT TII worth the couple of hundred pounds more but you got turbo to make up for it....

I bought my 87 TII with an orginal engine, white painted interior parts (lame), and it needed TONS of maintenance work...all for $2000 off E-bay.

Get a nice Non-turbo FC with that $2000.

I don't think a couple more hundred $$ will help. Because no matter how you dice it, they're over a Decade old. SO LOOK for something that was well maintained, and the extra $$ that you were looking into spending towards purchase price, put into basic maintenance. Or Keep for that special ocasion when you'll need to repair something.

kool, I think I will mostly be looking for NA 7's since I am new to rotary's. Then once my engine (god forbid) dies on me I will do a TII swap. but if I find a really nice TII with detailed history on the car ect...
IIRC its the 88 GTU and the 89 and up GTUs 's have the LSD and TII suspenion right? How rare these cars compared to the rest of the FC packages? Reason im asking is I want to know if they are common enough so can stick with my guns so to speak and aim for these models in piticular rather then the 1st nice deal I see.
Thanks

edit: What is the base model? I know of the GTU/GTUs the GXL and TII. GXL being the somewhat heavier luxury model, gtu/s being the sporty NA and TII turbo..
(all the 7's I have noticed around here are GXL's. that the base?)

yeah nething above the base has lsd and some power stuff, look in the faq if you want specifics. note that the SE's are the lightest, and I thought that all the suspensions were the same except the luxury autoadjust suspension that's pointless from what I hear. I got my 88SE in good to excelent condition for 1600$

If you plan on doing a TII swap, just start with a TII, I've known a few people that have gotten good deals on them, I got mine for 4K with 60K miles..
