aux ports opening right at 3k

Okay, due to a crappy stock tach, my ports open at 3k, a little soon. I really dont feel like doing anymore adjusting if im not even gonna notice any difference in the performance. (s4 with airpump mod) So i just need to know if opening early is killing my acceleration any, my ports havent worked right in so long i cant remember how it felt, just that its better with them opening than not at all.

The ports open at the correct time for a reason, so you are probably opening some mid range power from 3 - whenever they are supposed to open. (brain fart)

I don't see the relationship b/t the *crappy tach* and opening of the aux ports. There isn't any that I know of.

^ Good point, though I read that as 'based on my shitty tach' not because of the tach. Since he does go on to say he has a S4 with an airpump mod.

Exactly, i adjusted my valves i installed to run off the airpump for my ports to open around 3500, according to my stock tach, which i recently found out is off by +500, so i really adjusted them to open at 3000. My question is if i go back and adjust them to open at 3500 is there gonna be any noticeable increase in acceleration or am i not even gonna be able to tell the difference. If im not going to notice a difference im just gonna leave it the way it is, its all functioning properly just opening them a few rpm to soon.

P.S. I was in a hurry to post the thread before work and at the time when i re-read it, it made perfect sense to me. Sorry for any confusion.

Play around it with it and see what feels best on the butt dyno.

Basically, I'd keep it to a point where you're not going to open them during city driving. If you always shift below 3k when you're driving around town, 3k should be okay.

What are you using the control when they open? RPM switch? Flip the dipswitches or adjust the potentiometer (if it has one) and set it right. I have 2 RPM switches in my car, and they took me a whole 5 minutes to adjust to the output from the coils. All you need is a friend to watch the tach already in the car, and tell you when the 3800 RPM setting really does activate at 3800 RPM.

Mine is silicone hose and a fishtank valve. It really is a pain to adust the valve just right. Once i thought i had it right i covered it in rtv to hold the valve were i had set it, that crap is a PITA to get off and if im not going to notice a difference then its prolly gonna stay right were its at.

If they're opening at 3k now, you may not really notice the difference in power when you're at WOT, but partial throttle situations are where I noticed the change most. You're already much better off than the guys who think wiring the ports open works just as well, so that's a plus I guess.

Personally, I'd just get a summit rpm switch and an emissions solenoid. $41.95 for the switch and free-$5 for the solenoid depening on if you reuse one (EGR commonly used). It's so easy to setup, and it will be far more accurate.
